Lily Tessier in the portal again after a year at Iowa It didn't work out. Probably wants to have a little success in her last year. Unfortunately it wouldn’t happen with the Hawks. Pure speculation on my part.

And I am pretty sure she came to Iowa thinking she would be running a 5-1 offense and may not foresee that happening next season, either. Best to Lily wherever she lands.

Have you watched them? I beg to differ... Setter, opposite, and a go to middle. Lib wouldn't hurt either. That's if you want to get past the 2nd round of the NCAA's.

Curious to know what is going on at Va. Tech. Did'nt they lose a ton of players to the portal last year as well?

Well Byrd is done, and we haven’t even seen our redshirted setter yet who is a very good setter who should challenge Lang. I agree with a true opposite though, and a 2 year transfer middle wouldn’t be a bad idea. Next season our back court should still be pretty good, but a true libero should be considered sooner than later!

Curious to know what is going on at Va. Tech. Did'nt they lose a ton of players to the portal last year as well? They've been in the toilet since Marci took over. Players have cited team drama, poor coaching, bad culture, etc. And of course they're losing consistently so who knows how long Byers will hang on. Players transferring out after just one season isn't a good look. I would be hesitant to play there if I were a PSA.

Last Year 1 kid was academic related 1 kid got two codes of conduct via VT that Marci tried to help but couldn't. 2 kids didn't want to follow the drinking policy and decided to leave on their own Only one of those kid went P5 as a walk on everyone else dropped a level which was good for them. This Year 3 are grads that VT didn't have money for. 4 are walk ons who didn't play or didn't play much (one had health issues, that was the call by the medical staff.) 1 scholarship kid who got into 2 matches Virginia Tech has not lost a full time starter to the portal. Character assassination is the norm here, people love to do it behind pseudonyms, if that's how you get your giggles, then by all means do it. Just remember that ED prescriptions are cheap and more effective.

Just remember that ED prescriptions are cheap and more effective. I don't know anything about anything. And I love my ED prescriptions. I take them for fun. That said, 4 transfers followed by 8 transfers for a program that went 12-18 (3-15 in conference) followed by 11-18 (4-14) doesn't look spectacular. But I don't care. Maybe she's about to turn things around. Good for her she hasn't lost a starter to the portal. Maybe things get better in year 3. It can certainly take a while to turn a program around, and it's not always clear things are heading in a better direction until suddenly they are.

Have you watched them? I beg to differ... Setter, opposite, and a go to middle. Lib wouldn't hurt either. That's if you want to get past the 2nd round of the NCAA's. With the players coming back and in, Hawaii will probably run a 6-2 with our redshirt freshman setter, the 2nd setter. We’ll keep our setters. We already have a go-to middle (Igiedi) but they definitely need more production out of the 2nd middle and rightside. They can solve that problem by shuffling some of their players around next season (like moving Caylen Alexander to the rightside). The areas of need through the portal are a middle (that can challenge for playing time and one that has at least 2 years of eligibility) and a libero upgrade. If Hawaii could get someone like Hiapo, they could move their current Libero to DS, and they can upgrade those two positions at the same time.

I was already told by bkedane that the top coaches don't even know what culture means, and that it's secondary to bringing in top talent in any case. Of course, if you're Nebraska and you practically get your pick of players, it might change the equation some.

Yes. I didn't mean that it was specific to Nebraska. But I also personally believe that the culture of the program is even more important than talent, even if talent is very important as well. If you fail to get buy in at a very high level of everything the coach is trying to do to build a winning team, the talent isn't going to help that much, and can actually be a detriment to the team goals.

I thought I said that not all coaches mean the same thing by "culture," and that *some* coaches have told me that they don't know what the word means, and that not all of them say it is the single most important thing contributing to the success of their programs?
