Erin Carmichael a libero grad transfer from Jacksonville State has followed and been followed back by a few Illini players on Insta. This is some good news. Even though we have Barnes and Lily we still are no where even close to having a decent backrow. We need pins but there no change of even having a successful offensive without a good backrow. I saw some improvement in Barnes as the season progressed, but she would not be a libero at most B1G schools. She's still very streaky. Hope we can land a good libero. |

We are seriously thin on the pins When it came up in the Minnesota thread that Emilia Weske (grad transfer OPP from USC) visited last week, I did some Instagram checking. The only volleyball programs besides USC that she follows are Minnesota, Illinois, and Duke. She mutually follows the recruiting coordinators at each school too. Perhaps she has visited Illinois or plans to? I’m not certain about it but just something I noticed on social media! |

Erin Carmichael transferring to UI would be a nice pickup for the Illini, bringing 3 years of Div I 'liberolling' experience from a winning Div I program. JSU record: 2022 24-6; 2021 25-7; 2020 16-2; 2019 20-10. Could Erin have two years as an Illini due to covid year rule? Thanks. If the Illini were to have three capable DS/L, then they could get away with only having one six rotation pin (Raina) in a 5-1. Think 2018 Illinois back row with O'Brien, Welsh, and Kuper with Quade playing six rotations. I'd like for them to get another outside hitter from the portal, but if they got a third good DS/L (like Carmichael sounds) then they might be able to get away with their current OH depth chart. I don't know what they have for current scholarship commitments.

I think we only have one open scholie left with Kennedy taking her Covid year. I think we need a pin more than a DS. We have Raina, Kayla, Sophie & Taylor. 4 people for 3 spots. Barnes & Barry can cover the back row.

Any word on TTA and her plans? She is a perfect fit for us. The question is whether we are a fit for her. If she wants to play professional volleyball after, we have the team of coaches to help her. Given her academics, might not be in her future though. Would love a Raina +TTA 1-2 punch at OH. |

The transfer thread says TTA has been visiting a number of schools, but nothing on Illinois. She was in Wisconsin recently, and has been rumored to favor FL and GA Tech right now
