I should clarify that my statement that "this may backfire for some of the teams that have picked up several portal transfers" is my take on the portal situation, not the coach's.

Sounds like the rules of IL admission are working against us in using the portal. Thinking back to other transfers beside Ashlyn Fleming (who was coming in as a Jr), when did they transfer in? Colleen Ward?

On the basketball side, Terrance Shannon was a 4th year student who was not a grad transfer. He got in.

Disclaimer: not in admissions, but quite familiar with the process.
The rule Tamas is referring to is most likely the 60-hour rule. Transfer students must complete 60 hours of UIUC coursework regardless of how many hours they transfer in. So, a senior transferring in with 90 hours would still need to complete 60 for a total of 150 (note: most degrees are between 120 and 126 hours). Therefore, admissions is hesitant to green light students where the rule would extend their graduation timeline.
Note, this was not always the rule. Previously, the rule was you had to complete your final 30 hours on-campus. This would allow a student to transfer in with 90 hours and still graduate with just one year of UIUC coursework. I was told (not sure of the veracity) that the rule was changed because administrators did not like people claiming to be Illinios grads with only one year of UIUC coursework.
Yes, exceptions are made for football and men's basketball. Women's sports isn't exactly a power-player on-campus.

they posted a few videos on the team’s IG tonight…it looks like they’re stressing the Mosher/DeBoer connection and have her going up against Burbage and Terry on the block.
start working on this now and get them gelling in time for the Fall!

Burbage 6’4” DeBoer 6’4” Terry 6’4 or 6’5 Collins 6’3” Bingham 6’3” We used to call this an all airport team! Maybe Tamas is comfortable with DeBoer on the OH and we dont need a transfer OH. I would like to have someone who can back up just in case the injury bug hits.

They've definitely tried to get a transfer OH but missed on them all. Also seems like they will miss on libero Carmichael to LSU.

Thanks for the schedule! Planning to attend the Huff match and probably the Notre Dame match- can't make the Lindenwood match. Do we have any Monroe County Illini fans that can attend the Valmeyer, IL match?!

New facilities would help but Tamas simply isn't a good recruiter and I don't expect it to change. He couldn't pull top recruits after a sweet 16 and final 4. No chance he starts getting them now that the team is average at best. Hambly recruited to Huff, as did Hebert. They seemed to recruit pretty well. In the early, years when he was building the program, Hebert actually recruited to the Men's Old Gym. Fancy facilities certainly help, but aren't the only factor. Hambly frequently stated that he wouldn't want to move away from Huff.

The Illini women’s basketball team has an NIL based fan club. For $19.99 per month, or $199.99 per year, one gets some sort of insider status, special access to photos and team messages. Does the women’s volleyball team have a similar club or is one planned?
