I don't know. She's got a pretty good life. I think I'd take less to live in San Diego, but that's just me. of course San Diego is fine teh question is not taking 10-20k more, what if it's 200k or even more?, it's not like taking the UCLA (not just for her) precludes a 'good life'. I get it. But not everyone is primarily motivated by money. I'm guessing she's had other opportunities and declined. Petrie can effectively coach at San Diego forever if she wants. If she went to UCLA right as they're going to the Big Ten, there's a lot more pressure to win. Not everyone wants that stress.

I guess you never know, but I've never gotten the impression that Petrie wants to be anywhere other than San Diego. She's been there for 24 seasons. an extra $200k a year, plus incentives, might make me (or a number of people) want to be somewhere else than I am at. my guess is there are going to be a few coaches that wouldn't apply, but that UCLA will call anyway. The answer might be along the lines of, "I can't discuss it for 2-3 weeks". One of the items the UCLA coach candidates will consider will be just like recruits, maybe more so. Do they want to take 5 long trips to the mid-west/east each year and the worst travel a coach would have. Hawaii fans are adament that Santos would never leave. I guess, but seriously if she was offered $250k more than now, they wouldn't even discuss it? UCLA is Tea And Crumpets. Robyn isn't the tea and crumpets type. Plus money isn't everything. She's bringing her alma mater back to prominence.

Same reason why Robyn won't leave she can be at Hawaii forever and win conference championships every year. I wonder if Charlie Wade has had any offers. Northwestern hired the Loyola Chicago mens coach after winning back to back titles.

You previously said Hildebrand wouldn't be interested because of his contract/salary at LB. Now you think UCLA is going to offer $200K over Robyn's current contract? I think UCLA would lean towards Tyler over Robyn if they were inclined to either of them. Robyn is a better coach at this point, but she's a better fit at Hawai'i than at UCLA.

they need to give this job to the right person. getting a degree from ucla, living in socal, and playing in the B1G (coming up soon), are massive recruiting selling points. I predict we're gonna see the LA schools come back into the top team conversations in the next 5 years or so. I view this as just as big, potentially bigger, as the Minnesota job with where I project ucla to be after joining the B1G

#1 target for UCLA: I would say it'll be Petrie from San Diego. Now whether or not she'd take the phone call and have interest is another matter. She can retire at USD likely if she wants. Would take a 7 year contract probably to entice. I guess you never know, but I've never gotten the impression that Petrie wants to be anywhere other than San Diego. She's been there for 24 seasons. Why would ANYONE want to be ANYWHERE but San Diego?

If money is no option, I could see Keegan Cook and Jennifer Petrie as 1a and 1b in no particular order. If money is a factor, I could see Alex Dunphy from Stanford or Spencer McLachlin from Indiana maybe moving from the associate head coach ranks to the head coach ranks. Any other associate head coaches out there with UCLA or PAC 12 ties?

Olympic sports would likely have to charter at least some regardless. There isn’t a major airport anywhere near State College, PA for example, and there are limits on how much class student-athletes are allowed to miss. The Big 10 is a fair bit less travel friendly than the Pac 12. Also, charter cost take miles into account. LA to Eugene is significantly cheaper than LA to the east coast. I don’t think it being $17.5-20 million is a ridiculous forecast by any means. However, with the payout being $80-$100 million per institution, even that number leaves plenty of extra funds to go around. Sure, if they charter every flight, but they're not going to do that. Does every team need to charter to Chicago when they play Northwestern? You place more faith in the athletic admins than I do. They see the big above the line numbers and think they can make it work. At least they won't end up in the red. Have you priced commercial airline tickets lately? Not cheap, and they have no choice, they have to fly. So what used to be a bus trip is now a big deal. So they choose to fly commercial for select trips, leverage it across all of athletics, how much does that save in the grand scheme. You would hope that the UCLA poobahs did the due diligence. You believe they did, I believe they did it vey roughly and will be surprised.

Wow, McDonald’s joke. How clever and original. Where are we, the 90s? I wanted Sealy gone too and he is so that’s that. But good for you fo taking a jab at someone who’s won a natty as a player and a coach. More importantly, my local McDonald’s workers have shown more class and intelligence than you ever have in your +13K posts. The audacity of some keyboard warrior trash. I’d say go back to the hole you crawled out of but pretty sure you can’t since your mom is getting DPed in an alley somewhere. This post was so unnecessary, you know what the sentiment is like concerning Sealy on here. Stop being a little female dog

I know we want to pat ourselves on the back, but I highly doubt VT had anything to do with this decision. Really? I thought it was this quote that finally sealed the deal. Girl we all got mesothelioma from that man. [/sarcasm] this quote loves rent free in my head
