Have rewatched the first set where UNI was quite adept tooling off the outside hands of the right side block and scoring off high hands. I saw a couple of kills through a seam in the block. MN did not pass well early on.
iirc they had a super line at the media break. both teams were hitting in the mid .400s Holterhaus had 4 kills by the break and they'd run a couple of successful slides to Rotta they had only 2 errors
the momentum shifted after a whistle blew a bad Landfair pass dead when Wenaas may have run over a ball girl.
the commentators said (after Davis blocked a slide at 18-16?) that MN had adjusted to the height of the slide (higher than B1G sets) Kilkelly began serving tougher and late slides were block touched or blocked outright
in the post-game presser Hugh stated that "it took some time to pick the lock" maybe a more apt description would be finding the right 'keys'

Yes, Hugh mentioned in his presser after the game that UNI and SLU's style of play were different than B1G and what they were used to so they had to adjust.

This is why I have a love/hate relationship with playing teams like SLU, love winning fairly easily but hate that it throws our timing off and we have to adjust. Good thing they have a week of practice to get back to their normal tempo

Minnesota will win. They did when UNI was usually the better team in Cedar Falls in 2001. Drat on that! Still, yay UNI beating FSU! I must be misunderstanding what you're saying here, because UNI beat Minnesota in 2001 (26-30, 21-30, 30-21, 30-19, 17-15) in Cedar Falls. in more recent history (i.e. the 25-pt scoring era): UNI won in the Diet Coke Classic at Minnesota in 2010 (25-16, 16-25, 17-25, 25-23, 18-16) coincidentally I believe Minnesota was ranked #8 in the country at the time (same as now) Then Minnesota won in Cedar Falls in 2011 (25-22, 12-25, 14-25, 25-16, 10-15) And most recently, in 2017 the #8 Gophers won a home 2nd round NCAA tournament match over the Panthers (18-25, 25-20, 19-25, 17-25) after UNI had swept Louisville in the first round. Hazy memory! I mis remembered the Gophers winning. Good they didn't. That UNI team was really good! They won in Madison. No one in the Big Ten did!
