I am not very familiar with the UNI team. So are we expecting a competitive and fun match tonight? I was surprised that they swept FSU last night and that was considered an upset right?

I'm just amused at how Minnesota has been ranked #8 nationally for 3 of the 4 most recent (counting tonight) matchups between the two teams.
Just a fun coincidence.

I mean, it WAS an upset based on seeding, so at least in one way it's considered an upset. But I think there's many knowledgeable VB fans who wouldn't consider it an upset based on what they know about the teams, their seasons, their talent, etc. |

The UNI/FSU match last night was a bit messy. FSU had little defense and UNI looked decent I guess. It's hard to tell on just that one match though. Sydney Peterson is their libero and she played with Texas so I expect some good defense and play. At this point any team can be dangerous if they go all out and can sustain high level of play.

If our pin hitters avoid hitting so many right at their libero (the one thing I thought they could have improved on last night.) I think we will prevail. |

How old is Bobbi Peterson? I know she's not going anywhere, but is she young enough for a fairly long tenure at another school? She seems like she's been around forever. She looks fresh-faced and youthful in her bio pic on the Panther website, but who knows what year that's from. She played for UNI in 1986-89, so she was presumably born around ‘68, putting her in her mid-50s. She has been head coach for the Panthers since 2001 (and was assistant coach for six years before that). |

Expecting a very competitive match and UNI beating Florida State wasn't too surprising. They will dig a ton of balls, so the Gophers will need to battle hard to take this one. Olivia Tjernagel of Waconia and Mayer Lutheran HS was unstoppable in the middle against FSU. The Gophers will need their block party to be on point. |

I must be misunderstanding what you're saying here, because UNI beat Minnesota in 2001 (26-30, 21-30, 30-21, 30-19, 17-15) in Cedar Falls. Yeah. And the UNI fans (students) swarmed the floor before the final whistle blew. Mind you, it was just *barely* before, and the ball was clearly and completely unplayable, but it still irked me (and I have a super-long memory, even if it’s not always super-accurate).  Was also there, and if I remember correctly, it was played in front of it seems about 3000 fans, in West gym, that sat maybe 2000 fans?? I might be a off a bit, but West gym was very special. UNI players knew EVERY rebound off that ceiling! |

UNI and ISU both have decent histories playing against the Gophers. I take both of those Iowa teams super-seriously. I was there, too (I think we met at a Pizza Ranch?) Now I’m thinking of Amy Braun from Lakeville North who went to UNI. She was a lot of fun to watch in high school. Can’t say I got to witness her play 5 sets against the Gophers two years in a row. Those 2010 and 2011 scores. Wowzers.
