Why can't the answer be somewhere in between? Yes, I recognized times have changed--but I still think we are underachieving a tad bit. There are several non-P5 schools with similar or smaller budgets doing better than us.
That said you have to recognize our program was on an upswing and COVID and then the Big West's subsequent decision to cancel the season screwed us over hard hard hard. We are only now just recovering from that.
I really wish our school was able to capitalize on the portal in all sports--in theory who wouldn't want to spend their last year or two at UH? But all sports seem to be struggling with this.

So another transfer yet unannounced. How many available scholarships do we have left after Paula?

So another transfer yet unannounced. How many available scholarships do we have left after Paula? None of the 3 players we think aren’t coming back have actually confirmed it themselves but if the speculation of Tiff and Anika not coming back then we’d have two. I don’t know who the other transfer was that is coming

Now that is what I call BULLYING. You don’t make any sense at all. I hope the moderator sees this. Just reported this. I'm the moderator (surprise). babybacks has been asked to tuned it down before so babybacksets, play nice. That said, some of you have unrealistic expectations for the program (I disagree with babyback's delivery of communicating his thoughts but I don't disagree with his thoughts.) It's okay to lament the changing landscape of women's collegiate volleyball, where Hawai'i is not a top 10 program anymore but look at Long Beach State and other once-elite programs, they've fallen much further than Hawai'i. Robyn's teams are still competing, winning conference titles, and making the NCAA's. Her teams have battled. This year's team has the potential to do very well. If you're going to call it like it is, call it like it is..... there's is still only a small amount of elite programs, and a small number of new programs that are trending up. This isn't the 80, 90's and early 2000's anymore. There is more competition and more parity among programs. Expecting Hawai'i to continue to be elite today is unrealistic. Appreciate what we have and support the program. Robyn and staff are doing the best with what they have. Last year's result in the NCAA's is the only one in recent memory that was a total disappointment. Furthermore, players like Amber are setting the table for new Wahine recruits (Like Mili). Let's be excited for the future. BIK mahalo for this. What saddens me most is the lack of Aloha among so-called fans of Nā Wāhine. When it’s coming from inside the hale it magnifies the toxity even more. Putting Aloha first comes with experience and wisdom not to mention humility and kindness. Nā Wāhine and everythig and everyone it encompasses is doing what it knows best as best as it can. The most important thing on the most basic level, is the safety and well being of the young adults who wesr the wahine uniform, past, present, and future. This thread should be a safe place for them and anyone who love Hawai’i volleyball. Be like the aunties and live aloha.

But that’s the thing, I think it’s been universally acknowledged by all fans at this point that the program isn’t where we would like in terms of accolades and rankings. No one is denying that. The issue I found personally was with those who CHOOSE to be broken records, purposefully not acknowledging the unfortunate details you laid out, and then use that as opportunity to drag the staff, or certain players just because it seems like they desire something to put down and disparage.

People need to lay off complaining about Robyn, staff, and players. They have been winning BWC Titles, and getting into the NCAA Tournament. Once a team gets into the NCAA Tournament, it is aa crap shoot, you need to not only be good but lucky also. If you look at Dave Shoji's last few years of his Head Coaching career, the Wahine did not get past the 2nd round either. I know people want to see the Wahine get ranked and go far into the NCAA Tournament, just be patient, Robyn will get the Wahine back into the rankings and take them far into the NCAA Tournament. Covid put Robyn's plans and the Wahine back a couple of years, so again, just be patient.

What a Head Coach always tries to do is upgrade the team with new incoming players. To me, that is what Robyn has done with the 6 new players she has added to the team. I include Jackie Matias as one of those 5 new players, since she was redshirted last season. I also include Kennedi Evans, since she rarely played at all last season, due to still recovering from injury. Starting with Stella Adeyemi, she is better then any backup Hitter they had last season. Tali Hakas is better then Kendra Ham, sorry for those who like Kendra Ham. Jackie Matias is better then Mylana Byrd. Kennedi Evans will be better then Tiffany Westerberg as the 2nd Middle. Not to mention Paula will add another dimension as an OH/OPP. I also feel, Jacyn Bamis will surprise a lot of people this coming season. So with all this being said, Robyn has already improved the Wahine team from what Wahine had last season.

LOL @ the people on here that get bent out of shape when someone has an opinion that differs from their own. Hello people! That's what happens on an open forum like this one. If you walk by a bulletin board at the grocery store and see something that you don't agree with do you stand there and get bent out of shape about it or do you just ignore it and go on with your life? I suggest some of you just ignore the comments that make you outraged and get on with your life. You'll be much happier and the Hawaii thread will be less cluttered with nonsense. And by the way, pointing out the obvious decline in the program - for whatever reason, doesn't mean you're toxic or not a "fan".

Not sure why you are bent out of shape over the truth, and my opinion. What's with the "AF" for? Back when Robyn and Scott were Dave’s assistant coaches, Scott Wong recruited the mainland and international players and Robyn would scout and recruit here locally. At least that is what another poster mentioned years ago. As a newer head coach trying to build recruiting networks nationally and internationally, I would imagine a lot of misses and maybe a few hits early on. Maybe Coach Milan can lend a hand in snagging some decent Serbian players. Thank you!
