Not worried about the Opposite Position next season. That position will go to Caylen Alexander. Thinking either Tali Hakas, or Stella Adeyemi will take over Caylen Alexander's position at Outside Hitter. Westerberg has to decide which she wants to be, an Offensive Middle, or a Blocking Middle. She is not the type of Athlete who can be both. She has to just concentrate on one of those aspects, then be the Best that she can be at doing that. Even though Alexander played opposite doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best position for her. Remember that Akana was slated to be the other OH before Caylen came in AND Caylen would have to improve her blocking quite dramatically to be most effective there and I don’t even remember any swings from the RS being all that great looking.

I think it all depends who enters the portal. We are in contact with a libero who imo would replace tayli. Whether they get a schollie is tbd but she’s a schollie type of player imo Interesting. I’m guessing that this is a lib that has Hawaii ties and might have reached out already? I’m all for pushing Ikenaga, as good as she is, she really only has been a Libero for 2 seasons. If the staff is confident the other positions will be fine then I’ll trust them but Libero would have been last on my bingo list lol Not really surprised, since the coaching staff has always stressed back row defense, this past season. I really like Tayli Ikenaga, feel she will become an outstanding Libero. But if the coaching staff can get an outstanding Libero type of player for next season, then they should, even though it is not one of the weaknesses. I trust this coaching staff, in whatever decisions they make.

Did Tita Akiu unseat someone or was she a bridge in that position before Okino and onwards?

If this libero is coming to replace Tayli, then it sounds like Tayli will move to DS.
I hope this libero is named Elena Oglivie but I’m only dreaming…LOL
If Elena gets her Stanford degree this academic year maybe spending her last season in Hawaii would be ideal. Elena mentioned in the newspaper that her parent cannot attend many of her matches at Stanford. She is also already a national champ and will be going for another this season.
Elena should be like her fellow Iolani Red Raider, Bailey Choy, and come home for one last year in front of mom and dad.

Caylen has improved her Blocking, especially toward the end of the season. With this coming off season, she will be able to improve on her Blocking a lot more. An off season she did not have, being an incoming Freshman, this past season. Not at all worried about her playing Opposite, that it would hurt her Offensive numbers. In fact, I believe her Offensive numbers will improve by her playing Opposite.

In an earlier post I wondered if they are going after Hiapo, the libero from Arizona. She has family in Hawaii I think. Yea I’ve heard talk of Hiapo and I imagine she would be great for the Wahine even if she’s a one and done? Never actually seen her play but an experienced PAC12 libero would be an upgrade. Kamaile is one of the better liberos in the Pac 12. She's good enough to move Tayli to DS. With Hakas already coming in, Hawaii's ball control and passing could be in for a major upgrade next season.

Just do not know where Elena stands in getting her Stanford degree, which always comes first, in my opinion. If Elena gets her Stanford degree this academic year, I could also see her spending her last season in Hawaii, just like Bailey Choy did. On another subject, if Devon Kahahawai is not in the Starting Lineup for Texas next season, then I can also see her in the Transfer Portal after next season. She would be wasting her time being on the Texas team, when she could be Starting for a team like Hawaii, making a name for herself.

Lol Elena isn’t even that good of a Libero so I feel like it wouldn’t even make much of an upgrade. They’re both converted outsides and a true Libero would prob be the best bet.

Didn’t Elena win libero of the year in the PAC 12?

Elena is fantastic. Her receive receive is probably the best in NCAA. She has also gotten better with her reads defensively. Don't see her coming back home to play though. But if she came to UH, she wouldn't play libero - she would be good enough to probably be an outside hitter. She would probably even have been a starter at OH if she played for Hawaii this year. That's just a fantasy though!

I trust this coaching staff, in whatever decisions they make. Our defense is our weakness, at least on the national level. Just in the *Big West*, we're in the middle in Opponent Hitting %, Getting Aced, Near the bottom in Digs, etc. I don't have our passing stats, but they were very average when they were posted earlier in the year. I'd say that an upgrade at Libero is more important than an upgrade at MB, and probably about equal importance to RS production. (I'd say that Tayli has exceeded expectations as a walk-on. This is on the coaching staff for giving 0 scholarships to the back court--these days you need to give scholarships to your DS's if you want them to be any good)
