Well i think the only real reason Matias redshirted was because Byrd was still on the Roster. Lang should be a junior right now but with covid and missing a season, that made the 3 setter scenario we saw this season. It’s just not an ideal situation to have 3 because no matter what, someone isn’t playing the entire scrimmage. Pretty sure the last time UH/Dave had 3 setters, one ended up transferring out. Forget who the three were, Was Uiato, Monica Stauber, and one more? It was Mita, Tayler Higgins, and Kyra Goodman. Ah for sure Higgins was in the mix but I’m positive Monica Stauber was the one who ended up transferring out

Monica transferred to UCLA after Hawaii brought in both Tayler Higgins and Kyra Goodman. Kyra left after the 2013 season and Kendra Koelsch became the 2nd setter behind Tayler.

Oof I’ll be honest I don’t remember a setter named Kyra Goodman at all…I remember a pin hitter Kaela Goodman…lol

Her only season with the Bows.

Either way, I think it was smart to redshirt Matias, especially if it ends up she’s able to fix her bad habits at a faster rate and be on par with Lang next season.

I’m a walking Wahine encyclopedia. 😄 Jackie is solid. I’m excited to see her play next season.

A better Libero and terminating pin who can block would be nice. I think Tiff or Evans will be fine at MH2 next year.

Congrats to the Wahine on a great season! You all played better and better as the season progressed. Unfortunately for the hiccup at the end, but that doesn’t deter from your Big West championship year. Looking forward to you all playing even better next year and advancing even further. Can’t wait to watch Jackie and the incoming outside recruits and see them contribute to another stellar year. Hoping the future will return to the past when Hawai’i was almost automatic advancing past the 2nd round and annual regional and further contenders.

I hope Igiede stays in Hawaii, I think she will, because another player needs to join the 1000 kill club.

Hawaii really needs a Tita on the team. Them, and how many D1 volleyball programs are there? She was really, really good, and someone at that level may not be the libero at maybe 5 teams, but they would then be the best DS in the country.

I truly hope and pray that these 4 players: Amber Igiede, Riley Wagoner, Tiffany Westerberg, and Braelyn Akana, are able to go out with a BIG BANG in 2023, they truly deserve to. These 4 players came in together, stuck it out through the Covid cancelled season, and never wavered in sticking with the Wahine Team. They are what Wahine Volleyball is all about, and are now part of the Hawaii Volleyball culture. They are not only outstanding volleyball athletes, but also outstanding academic students, plus outstanding individuals. Would not surprise me at all if they all have Green and White flowing through the blood, and have a Rainbow in their Hearts. Robyn and staff need to make sure they can put out the Best Wahine Team they possibly can, so that these 4 players can be sent off, the way these 4 players deserve to be sent off, with an amazing season, in 2023. So all you returning Wahine players, including these 4, and any new incoming players, train and practice hard, to make 2023 the Best Season ever in Wahine Volleyball History. You can make this happen, it is in your soul. Your BEST Volleyball is still ahead of you, as a Team and Individually. In closing, I am going to name these 4 players, "THE CORE FOUR", cause they deserve this Title. Thank you in advance for all the wonderful memories, you, THE CORE FOUR have given each and every Wahine Fan, throughout your years as a Wahine Volleyball player.
