Interesting info. Is this all from a reliable source? Obviously not asking you to divulge the source. I had heard from a reliable source close to the program, that her and another player (not Beason) had already visited Nebraska. They might have, and if they did visit recently, sadly that would mean a player has decided to forfeit their scholarship. I would assume it was the player who wanted to take a break from volleyball. Nebraska did have 3 players visit on the scholarship which was available that Beason took. If Orr did decide to leave, that would be a new thing - and I hope she stays as would the Husker staff. I didn't want my post to be confusing, but it certainly is that way once I re-read it over. To sum things up, Nebraska had a 1 year scholarship available without any player needing to leave this season. Beason was the first to take advantage of that. I don't believe the staff wants Orr to leave, or the player who would like to take a break. If they did, we would need two new players to fill those two scholarships now. Let's just hope both decide to stay I see lots of misinformation on here from other schools who think they are aware of the Nebraska scholarship situation. I would say how and why the staff had this 1 year scholarship available, but it would be a waste of our time. I would rather want to keep this Nebraska thread peaceful for all our sakes. thanks for clarifying and bringing in the facts. Now hopefully those foaming at the mouth can settle down

I'll start off by saying I could be wrong, but I thought Nebraska only had 11 players on VB scholarships this past season. Somehow related to the Caffey situation? I had assumed Choboy was coming in as a scholarship player and that she would have taken the (presumed) scholarship that was open. Now you seem to be saying that Beason is the one taking that scholarship. If possible, can you clear this up for me? A response via DM is acceptable if that is your preference. Thanks!

Thanks for the intel. I heard from a usually extremely reliable source that Orr has no plans to leave. Her injuries were the driver of her struggles last season. Plans to be back and wants to rehab and compete with Reilly for the starting job.

Tbh I don’t particularly want Podraza. IF a scholarship does happen to open up, I think a good DS transfer would be more worthwhile (if there are even any good ones in the portal) or convince Knuckles to stay with it hehe

Confirms that my source was correct Now I need to dig a little deeper with that source!

Madi is going to play pro in Puerto Rico for those that care (Kayla Caffey will be there as well, but on a different team) Interesting! In the back of my head, I thought she might pull the rug from under all of us and do her Covid year at Rice, Houston, etc., considering that her boyfriend is transferring to Rice to play football. I have zero knowledge of pro volleyball in Puerto Rico. What's the talent level like there? Is this a good move for her? Assuming that's all you did--the average Puerto Rico VBall League salary is just above minimum wage here. (That said everything is cheaper too) That said, it was surprisingly competitive when I went to see it in person. It seemed to have a lot of players who were a little older and pass their peak but still really good.

I know they have rivaled what some teams in Italy offered for a half season this spring. (but it depends on the player/team)...

Curious if anybody can tell me just how good exactly Choboy is expected to be? Watch the Under-Armor All American game tomorrow at 4, she's playing in it!

Hello Nebraska setter issues in 2022---> Hames was injured throughout the 2021 season and very much struggled with her back injury within the NCAA tourney in 2021. She did agree to come back on a covid year if the team wanted her, but she asked for her role to be changed, because she didn't want to play another season of injury. Nicklin was not supposed to have a setting role this season. Unfortunately, her back injury very much returned and yet was more severe this year than years prior. The reason she was needed, was because of Orr & Evans. Evans was not capable of running a 5-1 on this level (height). Orr also was not near 100%. She also was worried about competing during the season to make her injury potentially worse. She wasn't in sentiment with: 'disappointed in not playing' as many people seem to think. Orr was and still is wanting to rehab, she is not comfortable with her knee still, and they are hoping she will be comfortable in 2023, and by last account she was all in, in returning. She directly asked in her exit meeting with Cook if he wanted her back, and he said YES, please stay. Cook and company are very aware she was not able to run a 5-1 this season, not because of her ability or potential, but because of her injury limitations. Cook wasn't too excited on playing her when she wasn't near 100% either. Our setters did everything they could with their health this season. Podraza, called in to Nebraska for openings in 2023. Podraza doesn't want to make a decision until May. Podraza did get an invite to visit campus and declined until down the road. She was told, Orr would be here as well as the Freshman for the 2023 season, but they would still visit and tour her if desired. As of now, Nebraska is at their scholarship limit, and they do not have one to offer her at this time. Podraza is aware of that. Nebraska did have one scholarship open. ----side note----- A player is struggling with 'burn out' and asked to take a semester of training off at an exit meeting at seasons end. The staff told her, they understood, but the school cannot pay for her schooling if she wanted to not train with the team for a period of time. She expressed her understanding and would have to terminate her scholarship if she took this time off. At this time, she still intends to come back as a player (not on scholarship). If she does end up losing her scholarship, she would only be able to return as a walk-on. If a scholarship did open in the future, she would be able to fill her role back if the staff offers it back. She has no plans of transferring to another program at this time as well. From my understanding (which is important to note) - she is still on scholarship as of now, and decision won't be made for another week. The Beason scholarship was available in separate form, and this still had nothing to do with this player and this players (potential break) scholarship. Nebraska had an extra scholarship for next season, only 1 year. Beason has committed on that 1 yr scholarship - not the player taking a potential breaks scholarship....... If that student would choose to defer her scholarship it would allow them to have another 1 year scholarship available for Podraza. How? Beason would take this exit players scholarship for her remaining 2 years - which opens up another 1 year scholarship for another potential player. If Nebraska is looking for another player at this time, that would mean this player has decided to forfeit their scholarship. Are they looking for another player right now? I'm not sure if that student has made a decision yet, if they have deferred, they would have another 1 year. I don't believe this is related to Orr leaving (Podraza rumors). Orr may be leaving, and had a change of heart over break, but at this time the staff wants her here and wants her to be a husker. Orr's season of limitations wasn't in her abilities, but in her injuries. #bball Can you talk about our scholarship situation. It’s confusing to me. I thought we went through last season with 11 so that 1 would be available for January this year. Then Choboy committed which I thought that meant we’re full. Nobody has left yet and you said we had one available for Beason. Currently our roster looks like Jr: (all assumed to be on a full ride) 4 Krause (1) Batenhorst (2) Rodriguez (3) Lauenstein (4) Beason (5) Soph: Orr (rs) (6) (did play in 21 and 22 should be listed as a junior) Allick(7) Mendelson (basketball) Kubick (8) Boesinger (walkon) Fr: (assuming all are on scholarship since they are nationally rated and probably command a scholarship from anywhere) Murray (9) Jurevicius (10) Reilly (11) Choboy (12) Jackson (13) I count 13 but you said we are using 12. So which is a walkon that I have a number next to? Or is someone on a 1/2? Like the 2 in state juniors? Seems to me that since it is a public university that this information shouldn’t be secret. Cook said some changes to the roster since end of the season. We know about Evans but since he said changes plurals, (and I think before Beason committed) I took that to mean , Lauenstein is taking a break but you said that is not the case. I swear it is easier to keep up with the 85 plus over signing that football has than the hard 12 limit on the volleyball roster.

Cook did say "Our roster has been undergoing some adjustments since the season ended, and last week we had an opportunity to recruit Merritt to Nebraska," Husker coach John Cook said. "She will fill a huge need for our team and her personality on and off the court will create an instant connection with Husker Nation." I don’t know if I have seen it directly from Cook or Beason that she will be on scholarship. NIL might be enticing enough if not….but there is no partial scholarships for volleyball since it’s a head count sport. knuckles is going to be working for the 1890 initiative and they’ve just been releasing what FB players “signed” with them so I’d guess we start seeing the same with volleyball soon. Roster adjustments seem to be coming as well but until it is announced someone is no longer on the team or switching roles etc…I think it’s safe to say the VB team will be well taken care of.
