idk if this has been discussed but ella said in a tiktok that she was injured for the last 3 months of season and it was so bad at the end she could hardly walk!!! what a trooper Down 2 sets to 1 vs Tennessee and down 23-22. Texas serves, Tennessee has a perfect pass. The setter sets Chase in the middle, Swindle reaches down at the last second to keep the ball off the floor and it goes to Halter and Skinner sends it back over. Molly later gets the block to tie it at 23-23. She later wins the joust at 25-26 and Tennessee is in the net. My girl is a fighter. |

I'd actually seen the link to the video, but didn't want to watch it because I thought they would be critical about that game, which they were. But mostly it was: 1. 20% about how boring it was 2. 30% about Texas absolutely deserving the win 3. 20% about bad passing 4. 30% about what a great job Saint Cook did in leading freshmen to the finals The only nit-pick I have was that the starting lineup wasn't 100% freshmen and these guys made it sound heroic and then they started comparing Saint John to Russ Rose and then I tuned them out.
I’ve been raked over my stocking coals for saying this. Those poor poor barely out of high school freshman. |

And for the record announcers - 2015 wasn’t the last meeting - it was 2016 and Texas won 3 to Z E R O. And my only regret with this 2023 closing set was there weren’t any pans of the Nebraska fans looking sad and dejected - but in that 2016 match there are: at 23-19, lost guy scratches chin for answers. Does anyone have the horns’ total aces for the tournament? It would be interesting to see how they stack up. Almost certainly have the most of any team since we went the furthest and had 23(!!!) aces in the last two games combined 43 42 according to the Texas website. |

Swindle is a great player and was more than good enough for texas to stomp over Nebraska in the final... that doesn't mean we have to call her an elite setter tho lmfao be fr. Unless you think the top 40 players in each position are elite, then sure swindle can be elite rn lol |

She wasn’t as good at the beginning of the season but she really improved and I was very doubtful and wondered aloud if Texas had a setter coach (not a coach that can coach setting). She got better - plain and simple. She’s at least as good as SKT. Regardless volleyball is a game of additions - and I don’t know if we’re all using the same definition of “elite” because we haven’t even operationalized that word. She didn’t need to jump set, and as another poster said it’s reasonable to ask if that skill adds enough at this level to make a difference-versus being more accurate (and healthy). If it’s “she’s not jump setting” it’s “she only sets moonballs” or “she’s too short to block” or “she’s too slow to the ball” (me, lol) - but the truth is if your talent around you can make up for those setting aspects (or thrive on it) it doesn’t matter. Credit to whichever coach sees the parts well enough to make the whole better. |
