I wonder how Tealer’s hits from the right side compare to O’Neal’s. I guess a slide attack by its nature is going to be an in system attack. I don’t know enough about what Tealer was asked to do versus O’Neal. I watched Kentucky a few times last year, but not enough - or not closely enough, anyway - to answer that question for myself.
Fun to see Phillips’ numbers at the top! We’ve been so lucky to have her, for sure.

speaking of heights; nya bunton said on numberonevolleyball ig that she's 6'3 not 6'5...have you guys have ever seen kenna miller next to some of the taller players on the team (she looks short) she's listed at 6'0 but no way...someone said she's 5'10 but maybe she's even 5'9 edit: height gate continues I fully expect you to be attacked by horns1 and stevehorn for this like I was about swindle lol It must be rough on you to come on the Texas thread and get attacked, but not have it happen anywhere else. In any case, I enjoy your comments regardless.

All these players from Texas at the top of these statistics. If Texas would finally bring in some coaches who do more than just roll the ball out there to their talented players, just think of how well Texas could do. Might be able to install some effective attacking schemes and develop players in some way. Unfortunately as fans we’ll just have to make do with what we have, with our Hall of Fame head coach.

(I don’t think I’ve ever posted in this thread before. I come in peace. Not here to stir up trouble or raise anyone’s hackles. The Longhorns are my second favorite, so I check in on y’all once in a while. Happy to help with the 1000 pages goal. 😂) chadgordon is here on volleytalk. Maybe this will catch his attention and he’ll explain some of his statistical analysis on outside hitters. I saw in the Stanford thread he answered some questions about his middle hitter rankings. He also posted in the libero thread. Busted. Yeah as katn quoted - attack eff is exactly what you think it is, but for those looking to go a big further and start using the difficulty of the situations each player faces, that's where we can get into some of these "expected value" type metrics. So in Eggleston's case, she takes out the trash for Texas. She deals with all the tough sets, against double blocks, with teams game-planning for her. She's only expected to hit 0.124 if you took an average attacker in those same exact situations. She's hitting 234 points above that... which is obviously super impressive as you'd expect. The reason the Eff Result and Attack Eff columns aren't the same is because Eff Result factors in the value of all the non-terminal attacks. So even when she isn't scoring, she's still putting teams in really difficult situations, which does have additional value to Texas. Expected Value numbers are built using where the set comes from, number of blockers, whether the MB was a threat or not in the play, and the quality of your opponent (as well as stuff like if it's an overpass or not)... And yes...lot of Texas at or near the top of these charts.

Can't recall posting about Swindle's height or at minimum, not discussing it with you.

I know it’s common I was just objecting to this specific inflation which to me seems like maybe a full 3 inches which is weird. That’s all I’m saying I just love that she seems to be shorter every time you post. Of course if she was going to play for whatever team is your current "flavor of the month", I'm sure you be arguing that she's definitely 6-3, probably even 6-4. this did not take long to find at all. Just to jog your memory

Agreed! If only! As we look into the work that Chad Gordon has done we can see how good Texas really was! Impressive work by their setter to put these athletes in the right situations. She definitely didn’t get the respect she deserved. I’m excited to see what the staff does with this new group of players.

i am somewhere between 4'0" and 7'0" Sorry we can’t accept self-attestation. We will need at least a panoramic sky view of you standing next to someone in that height range as they are leaning over. We will make our own estimates of that persons height and the the impact of the lean in establishing their height.

And yes...lot of Texas at or near the top of these charts. Although I haven't given your site any money as just a common fan, I have been thoroughly impressed with the articles you put out. Your writing really helped me advance my thinking in terms of statistical comparisons, and the lack of adequate metrics either in box scores or otherwise available to the public. In particular, I rail at the use of the service ace versus error metric as one of the most useless in all of volleyball, and much of that view was shaped by reading your analyses. As you've pointed out, every return over the net gives a statistical advantage to one side or the other, that may not result in a point in that particular volley, but statistically gives one side or the other the better chance of scoring depending on the result of the play. What kind of pass/dig did it result in? How effective was the setter in getting it to the most effective attacker for that play? How effective was the attacker in producing results from the set they receive? It's not just about scoring on that specific turn with the ball. It's about putting the opponent on the defensive, so even if a point isn't scored, the resultant return gives the attacking team a statistically better chance at putting the ball away. Anyway, I've been super impressed with your attempts at modeling different metrics for use in analyzing different outcomes on the court, and I appreciate you sharing your work with the rest of us. Thank you for being a contributor to this site, and coming to our thread to explain some of your positions. I'm grateful for it. Is there anything specific you can share about either what Texas does in general, or about what Texas did this past year, to be so high on so many efficiency ratings?
