i really do wonder if, after this VNL season, Asjia rethinks this year. If she keeps playing the way that she is, I feel like she has a small but decent chance to be considered for Paris. Outside of Chi and Haleigh, there's still a need for one, maybe two additional middles. That one or two will come from Rettke, Butler, Hall, and/or Asjia. If I had to choose now, I would imagine that Bri is probably at the top of that list with Asjia right on her tails. I selfishly want her to come back to Texas but having the opportunity to play for the national team in the Olympics is truly insane.
Regardless, I think having Asjia and/or Bri puts us in a really good position for LA 2028. Gotta imagine Bri and Asjia will most likely be at the top of the list for those Olympics. Will be interesting to see the development of Serena Gray and Booth over the next few years as well as I feel like those are probably the two up-and-coming middles to watch out for.

Curious to see if Akana becomes just a serving sub.

I don't think she'll go pro - for one thing, I bet she wants the ability to chase a back-to-back Natty. Also it would kinda leave Texas in a bind - too late to pick up a quality MB in the portal. I just don't see her doing that to her teammates.

we wont see this until the season but I am curious to see how Barnes's defense translates/improves I hope that whatever happens, the passing is just as consistent, if not better, than last year so that Swindle can get her feet. This was one of the main reasons why Shook didn't work out. She wasn't very good on the run as she was not getting the SPVB passing she was accustomed to.

Curious to see if Akana becomes just a serving sub. Possible, but only if we go with two 6ro pins, correct?

Curious to see if Akana becomes just a serving sub. Possible, but only if we go with two 6ro pins, correct? Yep. Wenaas as a 3 rotation only front row player just doesn't make sense in my head and I imagine it's going to be difficult to keep the "franchise player" Skinner off the court for half the rotations. Even if you assume Devin beats out Jenna somehow, her strength is her all around game.

I didn’t know she was so well rounded in that aspect.

Anyone else sick of the tone policing of female athletes? Again and again, it's that they are "aggressive" or "dominating" or not sufficiently humble or ladylike. These people want female athletes to smack the sh!t out of the ball and then be all "aww shucks, who me?" apologetic about being great at what they do. No thanks. this is usually only reserved from Black female athletes tbh LOL RETWEET

I don’t see how you attribute that to “goons”? It’s all in good fun and should not be taken so seriously. It fits the attitude of this team and stigma Texas volleyball has. Everyone already thinks they are overly aggressive with the stare downs and yelling at the net so why not play into it and own it? If everyone already sees them as the villain then BE THE VILLAN! I love the dominant/aggressive style we play with and I hope that never changes and I would like the photo shoot to reflect as such. Pitiful logic. You haven't proved that everyone sees Texas as the villain. You simply use that as an excuse to do what you think you want. Where does this path lead? If people (wrongly) view you as a child molester, does that give you impetus to go out and molest children? You should be more careful about what path you choose to follow. This made me giggle

Playing back right is not the same as the other two backrow positions, and many libs and DS' are not comfortable playing that spot. Akana has the most experience at BR having played there for three years at Texas (National Champion) and Nebraska (National Championship match, Elite 8).

Texas will always be a side out team before a defensive team. we want to run Asjia as much as possible.

If passing really is going to be an issue, then one of the outsides will be DS'd. you’re acting like there’s a big difference in any of their defending though, when there IS a big difference in their passing. and i disagree, Wenaas and Akana had extremely similar passing numbers last year so there’s not really a need to DS her. sure you improve defense a bit but wenaas is plenty capable on defense herself and can score from the back row. Skinner is too good to bench at any point this season. we don’t have a Logan anymore
