I was reading a posting by a Stanford fan on the game thread lamenting that Kipp was the only OH they would set the back row attach for. Then they asked the philosophical question, "why have 6-ro OH if you're not going to use them in the back?"
Then, I thought, "What if they're not good at the bic or d-ball?"
The I thought, "Okay, if that's true, then why ARE they there in the back and not some specialized DS?"
Then I thought, "Hmmmmm, last year we had Logan and Madi in the back row in certain rotations. Why weren't those two BOTH firing away with back row attacks? Why only Logan about 90% of the time?"
That leads back to the "Maybe Madi wasn't good at it" thought but that leads to "Well she's good now!"
Thoughts? As we try to kill time until Thursday.
I don’t know much about the technicalities of the game but I wonder if it has to do with how long it takes to consistently put up a good set there? Like I imagine that’s a difficult enough connection to establish with one person that having it with multiple would take a really long time to get down. But that makes me wonder about Stanford because they’ve been together for years haven’t they? And Miner is really good. |

stanford needs to move the score board out of the way From watching the game and the replay, I think Texas hit it twice on their side and Stanford once on theirs?
I now understand why the ball that Maddie saved with a diving dig and was going towards the front suddenly came back down towards Maddie - the scoreboard!
But if there was a second one, can you tell me what happened? It resulted in a loss of a point and JE up demanding an explanation.
i rewatched the 1st set this morning and saw kami miner have to react at least twice to the ball hitting the scoreboard.
i want to say that JE lost his mind about a possible double or lift when stanford had to rescue the ball out of the net and send it over

Rubin could be like a top 5-10 libero in the country so that’s why she’s back there
Baird? Still probably passes better than their best DS option. We’re spoiled now (who would’ve thought?!)
I still don’t get not running Rubin on more pipes though. She’s wayyyyy too good to throw everything to Baird when she’s front row

The biggest benefit of 6-RO outside is conservation of subs. They have limited subs, so as long as an outside is able to play backrow well, you would rather have them in back even if they aren't attacking. Also, if your outside is a better server than any DS, then you are thinking about if its worth using 2 subs to get a DS in for 2.5 rotations. Basically, you need a DS who good enough to provide a benefit playing only 3 rotations and an OH who is such a detriment that having them in the backrow hurts the team (as a Wisconsin fan, who comes in peace and just trying to learn more about texas, this fits us as Temi is awful in backrow and GG is a very good defender/server). |

do we know if o'neal will go play a short volleyball season overseas or will she get drafted & play in the pvf? before she plays with the national team this summer
