I finally got around to watching the pre-Regional press conference and had a good laugh - starting around 9:50, the most clueless reporter in the room asks how Asjia and Madi got into volleyball, "because a lot of women's volleyball players could have athletically done basketball or something like that. . . " Madi and Asjia smirk at each other, and Asjia super lowkey goes, "Well, both of our dads played basketball . . " like she's talking about some pickup games in the rec gym Loved listening to this! Jerritt talking about how he’s known Asjia for like 25% of his (long ass) career, and her face after 🤣 I already know after the last match no matter the outcome there will be ugly tears 😭 |

Last night's win was so sweet and satisfying. So many reasons for feeling that way, but it's also because it's been a while since we actually won a regional final against a 1-seed on their home court (a lot of that has to do with us mostly being a 1-seed): 1995: Beat 1-seed Florida in Gainesville, FL2008: Beat Iowa State at home 2009: Beat Nebraska in Omaha 2010: Beat Purdue at home 2011: Lost to UCLA in Lexington, KY 2012: Beat USC at home 2013: Beat Nebraska in Lincoln 2014: Beat North Carolina in Minneapolis 2015: Beat Florida at home 2016: Beat Creighton at home 2017: Lost at 1-seed Stanford 2018: Lost at 1-seed BYU 2019: Lost to Louisville in regional semi-final 2020: COVID season won at neutral Omaha 2021: Lost at home to 10-seed Nebraska 2022: Beat Ohio State at home 2023: Beat 1-seed Stanford at StanfordIt just occurred to me that Missy (Aggertt) Whitemore, ESPN volleyball commentator who called our match against Stanford, was the Florida Gators starting senior setter back in 1995 when #5 Texas upset #4 Florida in the Gainesville regional final. Florida had beaten us twice in the regular season (3-0 at Florida; 3-1 at Texas), so it was one of the best jobs Mick Haley did at Texas to turn around a team who started the season 0-3 into the national runner-up. I like when Missy calls matches. Pretty sure she'll be calling a lot of our future matches once we join the SEC. |

I couldn’t help but notice lmao I think he’s just more anxious than the girls when it comes to media and he needed something to do with himself when he wasn’t talking. Or it was a really good smoothie. Both equally valid explanations I think. |

If there's one thing I thought TV crews would let me know, it's when players used to be dancers before playing volleyball lololol
