Not a fan of conference tournament for volleyball. Just don't think it is necessary. But if they are going to have one I would say go to Club style rules and make it best 2 out 3 and play the tournament in a two day format. Just don't think there is any benefit to having a conference tournament at this level.

Well, that's an interesting step backwards in time. I thought the whole point of discontinuing the tournament was to let teams be fresher going into post-season, and to avoid having bubble teams take unexpected losses and hurt their chances. Has any of that changed?

I like it 😭 I feel like it builds excitement for the game and determines who's really the best team at the end of the season in the SEC. I mean, basketball does it so why can't volleyball??
I would often watch the womens/ men's basketball SEC tournaments being packed and HYPED and wished volleyball got the same.... And it would really fun if a underdog team was to randomly go on a winning streak to get a bid in the NCAA tournament!
If promoted well, people will come and the games could be huge and a big step as a volleyball Conference. Especially with Big programs names like Texas and Oklahoma joining.

Has any of that changed? First part yes — second part, I think that was ill-informed thought process. More upside than downside for P5 teams in conference tournaments. Maximize opportunities for bonus points/top 25-50 wins/at-larges and seeds. Yes, there is always a chance of an unexpected loss, but the way RPI works in our sport, having a conference tournament is generally not going to hurt. You can really protect yourself by limiting the # of teams who play in it — but I don’t know if P5 conferences will go that route. |

It will make for great TV and buzz around the game and the conference. I think it is great and will be a fun experience for fans and teams.

Atlanta would be the natural choice for a city to host the event but I'm not sure they have an ideal venue. State Farm Arena seems too big (21,000), but Gateway Arena where the WNBA plays is too small (only 3,000).
Nashville would also be great.

I can see the tourney being the way to have 18 conference games. Everyone plays everyone so that is 15 matches plus guarantee of three in the tourney for the normal 18 matches played in conference

I am almost positive this decision is greatly influenced by ESPN, and for TV purposes they’re going to want a single elimination tournament. I’m with you, though. Not a fan. |

Nashville could definitely be a good option for the first tournament site. Since it would line up with Vanderbilt launching the volleyball program, it could be a fun introduction for them and a way to incentivize the growth of the program. |
