Brittany Dildine, Wisconsin Associate Head Coach, has a wife. Also in the Big 10, I think Michigan State assistant Jake Barreau has a husband. I sent the original announcement link to Outsports.
But with these suggestions, maybe they will take on a larger story, as they don't really cover volleyball that often (I do see, usually male, coach stories about basketball, cross country, football, etc.). It's a timely topic.

Assistant at U of Minn and Illinois…technically an Associate Head Coach at UCSD. He’s got a pretty strong background and his players/peers seem to love him too. I know our passing was probably at it’s strongest when he was at Illinois. Also working on Team USA with Karch and Co.…this gives a good snapshot of his background usavolleyball.org/story/reft-rejoins-usav-as-seasonal-assistant-for-womens-team/ What he’s about to do is a different animal. I wish him luck, terrific person, good coach. 100%…but i think he can get it done if he hires a good supporting staff. That’s what i’m more interested in seeing…who he hires as his Assistants

Congratulations Coach Reft. You have earned your HC selection. Please put UCLA on solid ground before joining the BIG. Can't wait to welcome you to BIG volleyball grind!

So funny how down people are already about Reft as of Penn State didn’t just have the revival season they just had.
Give people a chance, especially when their track record is majority positive.
Excited to see what this coach is capable of pulling off in Westwood.
Honestly feels idiotic to me to assume every head coach of prominence is going to up and leave their established programs for UCLA which is very much on the decline and needs rebuilding and who better to do that than a solid candidate with something to prove?

Not sure how performatively cynical that is, but I get it. He seems to be a coach that everyone likes and who knows a lot about the game. But, for a program the stature of UCLA, I can understand people expecting a "bigger" and splashier hire. All I can do is wish him and the Bruins the best.

I was gonna ask this. I'd assume there has to be maybe a couple, but I can't think of any. Brittany Dildine, Wisconsin Associate Head Coach, has a wife. I believe the HC at CSUBakersfield, Giovana Melo has a wife too.

It followed "meh". That's all there is to that. lol Alfee is a great person, smart, serious and dedicated, and will work hard. Some are pointing to Penn St, but she was a HC for almost a decade, at a smaller school certainly, but that experience matters (and Schumacher-Cawley had the luxury of still having Russ available nearby as a mentor/advisor). Not having HC experience, it's normal to wonder how much involvement in recruitment he's had, whether he's actually had to determine his own line-up, direct his own system and offense, train his setter(s), make in-match adjustments, and manage and develop his own staff. Obviously, he didn't hire himself, and the skepticism isn't intended as a direct knock against him, but about the institutional process and priorities. If UCLA were remaining in the PAC, it might not be such a risk or big deal, but moving to the B1G IS a big deal for volleyball, and becoming mired in the 7th-9th spot or so during the first fews years of the transition could create some real difficulty in gaining traction (maybe at least until Cook and Sheffield retire or leave).
