MSU reverse sweeps USC on the road at the Galen Center. Takeaways for the game are really simple: USC had a ton of service errors and MSU punished them for it. Truly the first game this season where MSU was able to play side out ball with another team AND block/defend their way to some points. The biggest point of all is that rumors of Kash Anderson’s demise were greatly exaggerated. Her move to the opp slot looks like a stumbling into a gold mine. Two games in a row with 18/26 kills on .318 and .250 efficiency respectively. It’s been like 3 games and she’s really starting to grow and I can see this really sticking as a position change. Shes blocking fairly well and clearly can terminate far more effectively on the right. Hoping this can be a turn the page moment for a program with a much more manageable back half of the schedule. Love to see this. MSU is trying to ride out the season with Preston and Anderson as the focal point of the offense. Really hope we can get the middles involved at some point. They need to get Kulig involved. MSU only has 2 less swings from the middle than USC and swung 18 less times. Bishop rode the hot hand with Kash till they mixed it up and then Kulig got set to keep the defense more honest. Doezema is just out there for vibes and I’m not sure that’ll change tbh. Blocking well just not going to be an offensive factor for most nights. But I guess if Iosia keeps up these pushes it makes up for Doezemas lack of production lol

Game Day for MSU! Fellow downtrodden program Ohio State comes to the Breslin to kick off MSU’s far more manageable back half of the schedule.
Set 1 goes MSU’s way. Carmen Waye got the start and is back out for set 2. Kash has been efficient, and for whatever reason this team just decides to randomly decide to flip back to the 6-2 and back to the 5-1 seemingly on a whim. Not sure why but whatever lol

MSU drops set 2 after being up 24-21.
Comedy of defensive errors and serve receive to end the set but lots to like thus far. OSU is a scrappy team and neither of these programs really feel as bad as their record indicates.
One note is that with the schedule being what it is, I’d really like to see Carmen Waye get some run for the rest of the year. Waye has a little more offensive juice and while Doezema has blocked well, we need side out production.

OSU takes set 3 25-22.
I understand this coaching staff gets paid to make rotations but I truly do not understand what data is pointing them to continue pushing the 6-2 at some of these junctions. How can you continue to watch this team rally into good runs with the 5-1 rotation and think oh you know what? Let’s make my front row a combo of Holdem Waye and Moore?
There just isn’t enough firepower on this team to have Preston and Kash off the floor both at the same time. It just does not track at all.

I haven't been able to watch today. Thats a bummer as I thought there was opportunity for a win against OSU. Disappointing to say the least. From the games I've watched they just don't play clean volleyball. Nani bails them out a ton. Along with Waye getting more playing time as the season wraps up, it would great to get Berger reps at setter.

MSU drops set 4 25-18 and the match 3-1.
This one stings pretty hard. Kash continues to play at a high level even though the game plan is to stop her. Iosia played out of her mind to keep us in rally after rally. The middles played well and we even got solid production from both for the first time all year. Preston played well again and did her part and we still just couldn’t close out when it mattered.
I am fully sounding the alarm on Holdem though. I don’t know if it’s injury, lack of setter connection with Bishop, personal struggles of being so far away from home, being schemed out of games now that she has film or what. Maybe it’s somehow a combo of everything or nothing at all. But she looks completely checked out and this team cannot win games where she goes 3/6/25 and your setter matches your offensive output in multiple games in a row. She’s not even taking full swings they’re all just chops and long half speed shots. Maybe it’s just a confidence thing after losing so many games but at this point we’ve gotta try someone else up front.

I thought State was suppose to be much better this year.

I thought State was suppose to be much better this year. You’ve come into this thread multiple times saying something to this effect and you’ve been given an objective list of points as to why this is. Clearly you don’t actually pay attention to this team off and have zero interest in contributing any meaningful discussion about MSUVB. So please f*ck off.

If no portal attrition happens you should have Berger, Kash, Preston, Holdem, Kulig, Waye, Foley, Bolton, Clayton and MAYBE Courtley if she takes the medical red shirt? Losing Iosia sucks but Bolton, Foley and Berger all have their redshirts for this year burned. Let’s let them get some run and punt on this season. With all that in mind, I think a far more likely scenario is that Berger fights the NCAA for a redshirt after only playing one set and hits the portal to go G5. This staff has not shown any confidence in her this year and with them burning the redshirt both seasons, they’ve done no favors to her that might indicate she’s part of their plans long term. I’m almost positive they will hit the portal like they did for Nunez and see if we can bridge the gap to ‘26 for McCarty. Losing Iosia sucks but this team returns a lot of production next year.

Is there a chance that either Bishop or Muisenga come back for a 5th year? Do they even have that option or have they burned their 4 years? I don't follow on what "they did for Nunez". Can you give a run down on the incoming options for setter? If Berger leaves that would be a huge blow......then isn't the only option the incoming freshman setter from Zew Zealand? Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, the only other setter option (besides Berger) for next season is the recruit from New Zealand. I think what the poster meant about Nunez is to again get a setter from the portal for one season who can bridge the gap until McCarty comes to campus.
