MSU’s instagram posted a photo with a caption saying it was the last practice at Jenison for the seniors and Courtley was included and tagged. So it looks like she might be done with volleyball (or at least at MSU). Such a shame. This season definitely could have gone on a different trajectory with her. We never got any elaboration, news or discussion about it so tbh it may have been one of those that just wouldn’t heal enough to be worth coming back. Would be nice to have her back but rehab is HARD. Could’ve gone differently but I think if we bring back Anderson, a healthy Holdem, and Preston we have some arms already. That is if we portal hard for a setter and don’t do this 6-2 garbage. Yeah, really hoping for a dependable big 10 caliber setter from the portal (at least). Do we actually think Berger would transfer, or if she and the New Zealand setter could battle it out?

MSU got swept last night by a very talented Oregon team. From what I've watched, this team has continued to battle without giving up. Iosia is a crazy talent that will be a huge loss next year. Hopefully the setting gets better and faster paced next year but it won't matter unless the outsides really focus on learning how to use/tool the block. Preston and Anderson are very talented hitters, but its either a clean kill or a stuff block with them. The great hitters in this league are consistently able to "see" the block and score even if block is perfectly set up or not.....getting points off of ricochets/glancing off arms/hands etc. is a must have. Mastering this could push Anderson into the .225 and Preston to .250 hitting range in conference which would have a huge effect on how this team does going forward. My impression of this season based on some convos I’ve had with family/friends of the team has been this team vibes really well and the results are sort of secondary. I truly think these girls love each other to death and are having a ball regardless of whether they win. It’s been tough as a fan but I know some of them came from programs that were pretty toxic and they’ve found better homes. That makes me happy. Would love to get two more W’s on the year and keep some momentum.

I think Leah will be active in the portal for an upperclassman setter that can run a very experienced offense. I think the passing will be young but Durst is a STUD and Bolton, Clayton and Foley all have got solid game time reps and done well. I think the plan originally may have been to have Berger and Norton do the 6-2 but Berger got zero run this season even when Musienga and Bishop couldn’t set the broad side of a barn. I’ve got Berger on portal watch with a 60% confidence there. Norton will get zero run unless there’s serious injuries or they strike out HEAVILY in the portal. She’s like 5’10 in shoes. Not a 5-1 candidate.

Ik it’s a bit early but there’s talk of Stucky leaving Florida, I wonder if Leah and co can get her here just like they did for Iosia at Texas

Teams don’t make the tourney/seasons start ending it’ll be easier to speculate. I would not expect Stuckey to have her sights set on EL. She will be a wanted woman by every program in the country if she leaves. MSU is likely to continue its island of misfit toys approach. I think Leah and Jake have excelled at getting the most out of players that seem to have lost their love of the game. As I alluded to earlier, this team seems to be FUN. There’s so much love there and I think the staff is super careful to keep that in tact. I have faith they can find one though. They managed to get Zoey Nunez knowing Mere O Gorman was gonna be the only offensive threat lol

For what it’s worth, she’s actually looked good in the reps she has got. She came on against Western and looked like the best setter that’s touched the court all year. She simply hasn’t got the reps to show. It’s very clear Bishop was not going to lose her job regardless of how high or low it went. They went away from the 6-2 for a bit because Musienga still struggled. But they’ve doubled down on that and likely will finish the year that way. To me that’s why Berger is on transfer watch. She’s definitely the best of the 3 setters and it just hasn’t mattered.

I know she’s been warming up, but it’s so strange she hasn’t gotten any shot without having a redshirt year. I hope she gets her chance. So strange that Okur had barely gotten a shot either. She had a great freshman season and then never really got a shot to shine again. I know she’s a little undersized, but she is so quick and fun to watch.

My educated guess is just simply deep loyalty to the girls who have stuck through a couple rough seasons. Same reason Doezema has gotten so much run….she stuck around with Bishop and kept some of the good culture we had. Quite frankly Okur and Doezema aren’t as good as Waye or Hood and yet both of them have gotten all the reps essentially. It’ll be their turn soon enough. What a find Kulig was though.

Not a 5-1 candidate. Why would Berger transfer now? She'd be a front runner to be the starter the next year or two. Obviously the transfer portal will be crazy but after the year MSU had, I don't think a lot of B1G quality setters will be knocking down the door this year. I do agree with your take....the team really looks like they are enjoying each other and have a lot of love for the team.

Bishop and Musienga are the two least effective setters this program has had in probably 20 years and Berger couldn’t even sniff reps when Musienga was looking like one of the worst P4 setters in the country. Also she’s not a serious contender to be a 5-1 setter and has 1 full set of volleyball played since early November last year. This next season, you essentially have your entire core besides setters and libero come back. Unless some unexpected names dip, you can go all in on finding a setter and really push to get back to the tourney. Given how little faith this staff has shown in her, I don’t think a summer of workouts and spring ball is gonna magically make her that girl. To me that time passed when she lost the job last year

Courtley is not listed on the Senior Celebration instagram post that came out today. Take that how you will but maybe she’ll be back next season?
