Hey everyone!!!! I'm super pumped about the upcoming club season and wanted to make a thread specific to the 17's age group and Open level of play. Lots of teams started play this weekend. Who are some 17-Open teams that you think have the potential to come away with the trophy at USAV nationals come July? I'm hearing there was a ton of movement among teams in Texas. Drive Nation maybe???

Hello mom of DriveNation player!! Who would you like us to compliment on your team? I don't have a child that plays for DN but I have looked at their roster and it's loaded. Just wanted to talk club at the open level. Excited about getting started... WTF.

Hello mom of DriveNation player!! Who would you like us to compliment on your team? Don’t be that person, there are a lot of exciting players/teams to watch in the 17s age group and there’s no harm discussing it. It costs ZERO $$ to not be a d**k

I wouldn’t take it personal though dogmomx3. North Texas Region always spits out contenders for USAV championships. PING with DN will have really high expectations once again with the talent laden roster they compiled from all over the state.

I love talking volleyball and that 17-open level is stacked with talent with some outstanding teams. Sure, I have a child that plays at this level (hence the reason for wanting to discuss), just not at DN.

Looking at final finishes from 16U in 2022 I would expect the usual suspects to stay near the top. Dynasty with Pierce, Cisneros, Mullen, McAleer & Messer will continue to push for a championship. A5 & their size will cause problems for everyone. Being from the Midwest, I'm more in tune with those clubs. Nebraska Premier and 1st Alliance should continue to be near the top unless they've had significant roster turnover. Milwaukee Sting was solid in 16U though Madison Quest and Gabby Pitcel who played up with the team last year, are on the 16's team for '23. Their issue always seemed to be ball control with their outside hitters. If they can get that squared away, they might be able to improve on their finish. No Minnesota clubs qualified open for 16's so perhaps that isn't a strong class or the talent is spread between evenly between Northern Lights and MN Select. Metro has Emerson Sellman, Ryla & Renee Jones, & also Erin Debiec. Should be an exciting year for 17's.

NKYVC, Tri State Elite and the OT team with the Florida commits are always in the running for this age

I think Drive Nation and TAV will be the teams to watch in NT. Drive Nation has Nebraska commit Ayden Ames along with a bunch of other D1 commits. TAV also has some really solid D1 commits plus Cari Spears and a really good '25 libero.

Top 17 Open teams in no particular order:
Dynasty Drive Nation A5 NKYVC 1st Alliance
Even though Madfrog won 16 Open at nationals, Dynasty was definitely the best team throughout the whole season. A random good team could come out to win nationals again, but I think the 5 above will be dominating the entire season.
