Right now, what weaknesses does KU have that hold them back from speeding up the offense, primarily to the pins? I think that the OHs, Bien specifically, would benefit greatly from this. In ‘22 I wasn’t particularly impressed with the speed to the pins, though I didn’t watch as much as I would have liked.

Looks like KU is playing Washburn in a spring game. Any idea of any other matches they are playing?

Will be interesting to see who Cooper from Tech plays in front of. She is too athletic to keep off the floor. Does Bien move to libero after a sub par sophomore year? Does Cooper play RS? Huge block over there and they have a spot open.

Otherwise - she probably battles Davis for the starting spot on the RS when playing a 5-1. Bien is essential in serve receive from the OH position. It is possible that they will sub her out on the front row in some occasions - but option 1 is for Bein to be a 6 rotation OH.

Kansas with a commitment today - sure would be nice if it is a MB transfer. Another day, another middle not going to Pitt lolol Funny comment about Pitt! I was just looking at the Pitt roster and am shocked they only have 1 MB currently. They played Gray in their spring match vs OSU! They only have 1 MB on the roster and she didn't play much at all last year. She isn't close to elite level ability and Dan Fisher has to be madly looking for a live body who can play middle and stay in the flow after serve receive is over. He has a big problem on his hands in the MB position which he has to know will be exposed in the fall.

Texas Tech isn't the sharpest staff, but Cooper was a better OH than Kenna but Cooper can't pass like she should be able to. I just don't think she will be switch from OH, but she will only play 3 rotations. It will be interesting.

Double-header in Gregory, ISU and an away game at BYU is a rough draw. Really disappointing it’s the home and home series this year. Better pull off a pretty good non-con resume!

I actually don't mind this schedule (given the undesirable home and home stuff). Texas and BYU were going to be very tough to beat at home - so they get all 3 on the road. Houston and Baylor are tough matches - and they get all 3 of them at home. Switch that around - and they might go 0-6 or 1-5 in those 6 matches. Would have been really good if they switched West Virginia on the road with Iowa State at home. This schedule should give them a decent conference RPI baseline for the season.

Why are they still playing the back to back game format used during Covid??

The difference now is that each Big 12 team is playing 18 matches in conference vs 16 in the past years. 18 is more than half of their total schedule so if you get a bad RPI “draw” in the schedule, you will have to really do your work in your OOC. In the past every team in the conf had an equal conf RPI with round robin format. Much different now.

Why are they still playing the back to back game format used during Covid?? They didn't do this last year - so I don't believe this is related to Covid at all. I think this has more to do with the conference having a much larger foot print and expanded road trips that they wanted to ease the travel. Both saves in cost - and it looks like there will be less missed classes? This will also be the only year with 13 teams - so it could be a one year thing. But then, next year will be 11 teams and the same problems will occur. Except the format would become 8 conference teams you play twice and 2 teams you play once (unless they go to a full round robin 20 game conference season - which would be an issue for their RPI). Odd number of teams can play havoc in scheduling.

kuathletics.com/brian-tate-named-kansas-volleyball-assistant-coach/Tate being named Assistant Coach seemed inevitable with the changes in the NCAA rules - I am very glad it is now official - I think he is really good. I just wish Tate could have helped in landing some of the elite talent to Kansas that he was coaching at Dynasty (just kidding/sort of).
