Such a great tournament! I have to wonder though, would it be better in a city with more direct flight options? I understand the geographic appeal of KC. But if most of us are getting on a plane anyway, direct (and WAY cheaper) flights sure would be nice! ESPECIALLY when the tournament tells you not to book a flight until after 6 pm on Monday. Half our teams are staying overnight an extra night because there were almost no flights out that late. That means another day of missed class for our kids, added hotel and food expenditures, etc. The tournament was supposed to rotate every 3 years, now it's apparently 5. So far as I know, there isn't a plan to move it from KC, unless something has changed. Most of our teams paid more than $1000 per person for a flight. It is nuts.

I haven't been to NIT, can someone explain the 'Power Pools' and how the tournament flows?

Some love to other Age groups.
14U TAV 14 Black will be favorite to win! This team is absolutely stacked from top to bottom! Both setters set back row and hit front row and make it look so easy. AZ Storm Thunder and Tstreet 14 Carlson will give them a run for their money with some special talents on both side especially the 6ft 5 middle from AZ Storm. Future #1 player. A team that got snubbed from power pool is Drive nation 14 red! That team is absolutely stacked with hitters with the disperse of Texas Pistols, the best players on that team joined DN best players and they will make a final spot and could make a sneaky run.
15U skyline and Madfrog are pretty even head to head. They both have split and no teams really have competed with them so far in NTR. Austin Performance has a really really strong team along with Boiler Jrs.

I haven't been to NIT, can someone explain the 'Power Pools' and how the tournament flows? 'Top' 32 team in the division go to an 8 team Power Pool. The rest of the teams go to mostly regular 4 team pools. Power Pool teams play just 3 of the other 7 teams in their pool - generally being matched up against teams from a different geographical region (and unlikely to have played during the season). Even the 4 power pools (A, B, C, D) are broken into the best 8, next 8, etc... Essentially - it becomes a 64 team tournament after the Power Pool (1st day) - where teams get 'seeded' from how they did in pool play. Those 32 teams from the power pool automatically make the 64 team single elimination tournament and their first match will be against the other 32 teams making it out of their pool. The advantage of Power Pools - it gets the best teams playing each other on the first day in one location - where the results will not eliminate any of the team. It becomes a 'dream' scenario for someone like me that would want to watch the best teams (and players) playing each other right from the start.

This is essentially what every qualifier requests. The only difference is that this tournament holds you accountable to not screw your opponent out of a match if you book an early flight and forfeit.

Multiple airports and direct flights to just about every City in the country.

It's usually 5 pm (which is also our club policy), but most of the qualifiers are in places where the airport capacity allows for more than a handful of flights after that time. KC airport's lack reasonable flights is a big reason we don't attend that qualifier anymore. And the way the cost for flights have escalated for this weekend since the tournament was moved there is nuts.

Saw where A5 is in the Power Pool for 16s. Don't understand that pick. A number of the teams not in the PP have beaten that A5 squad several times over the last two years. A5 is a really good club but not sure this group is on the same level. You are correct. They did not even qualify for Nationals last year but from what I hear, A5 has completely revamped the team and is in better shape this year. This will certainly be a good test to see where they stand. The A5 name clearly pulled some weight here though. They finished second in Tour of Texas beating Houston Skyline, arguably top 3 in the nation, and TAV. Also heard from the A5 staff they beat AJV 17s and Drive Nation in the scrimmage the following day. They lost to Tri-State who I believe is in the Power Pools, and Pineapple who is attending St. Louis, both very good teams from my understanding. They aren't some of the vaunted A5 16s of the past, but they deserve to be in it.

Does anyone know if this will be streamed? I *thought* in past years they used BallerTv but maybe I’m imagining that.

We’ll be hustling to make a 5:30 flight on Monday. Taking my chances. I’ve got one kid in the 16s and one in the 17s. 16s and 17s power pools seem pretty accurate to me but I do agree it’s bizarre to not include Sting and Rockwood in 17s. Both definitely top 30. I don’t see any big misses on the 16s side. Anyone know where NIT will be next year? like actually I can’t believe those 2 teams didn’t make the power pools lmao. I haven’t seen sting play but they are always really solid and I checked some of their results. Rockwood i have seen play obiv and their tourney at NL shows they should be here

The only thing I can think of is that they’ll be 2 of the final 4. It’s just odd.

Gives everyone (in the power pools) great competition early when there is less pressure, and gives everyone not in the power pools a more competitive battle too.

Your feelings are correct, it was held in Salt Lake previous to Kansas City.
