I feel like it was in Salt Lake City for a while before it switched to KC, hence the switching every 5 years. Not sure the next location but I feel like I remember it being there. Your feelings are correct, it was held in Salt Lake previous to Kansas City. KC is the home now as far as I know. SLC started as the home, but once it grew to include many more teams, off to KC. I like this tourney format a lot if you are a team in a Power pool. If you are a good team that isn’t in a Power Pool but win your challenge pool, you hope you don’t match up with a top Pool A team in the cross match. Otherwise you play a top team to advance and if you lose you are going for a medal in the *Open division rather than competing in the *Elite division. (Elite has been top 32, Open next 32). Seeding really matters! Had a 17s team that got 4th in Elite and as 18s the next year they weren’t put in a PP and ended up crossing with pool A and lost a tough 3 setter. But still some good matches overall.

Some love to other Age groups. 14U TAV 14 Black will be favorite to win! This team is absolutely stacked from top to bottom! Both setters set back row and hit front row and make it look so easy. AZ Storm Thunder and Tstreet 14 Carlson will give them a run for their money with some special talents on both side especially the 6ft 5 middle from AZ Storm. Future #1 player. A team that got snubbed from power pool is Drive nation 14 red! That team is absolutely stacked with hitters with the disperse of Texas Pistols, the best players on that team joined DN best players and they will make a final spot and could make a sneaky run. 15U skyline and Madfrog are pretty even head to head. They both have split and no teams really have competed with them so far in NTR. Austin Performance has a really really strong team along with Boiler Jrs. Seems like you may have some NTR knowledge… who is 1United? Did one of the clubs fold or take some drastic cuts?

Power Pool Teams are finalized and complete pools are scheduled to be released by Tuesday evening. Very exciting week of volleyball to see where everyone stacks up in February before qualifiers and other major events coming up. These last 4 teams announced for the power pools at each age group…. Are they supposed to be “Last 4 In” type teams? Or did they just pick teams at random to prolong the process? Either way, solid marketing move to keep everyone just a little more engaged for a few extra days. Just wondering what people will say if one of those last 4 teams winds up in a PP1 or PP2.

Just one opinion but I think it's genius. You put out 28/32 power pool teams and it gives you a safety net for an oversight and feedback. So, maybe in your review of these incredible fields, you miss a team and get some strong pushback. You don't have to re-seed the field and move someone out which is a hard sell. Now, you add the team and a couple others you had in consideration and don't have to have that negative conversation.

This is absolutely a way to account for some overlooked teams. I don't think they have re-seeded in the past, just go with what they put out. One year a PP team dropped out, so a deserving team filled the spot. They didn't medal, but I think got top 8 iirc.

Power Pools are great, I just prefer the format Central Zones uses where teams have to earn their way into the Power Pools. Teams evolve from tournament to tournament and season to season and upsets do happen. I get it that TC has a lot more teams but multiple Clubs also are bringing both their 1 and 2 teams which also doesn't make any sense. There is no perfect format but if this is really supposed to be the best tournament all season long then the Power Pool system they use at Central Zone makes more sense.

I think one of the biggest draws for this tournament is the chance to play the best teams all weekend long. You could also argue the Power Pool teams have been earning their way in since mid to late season last year. I certainly see your point though about having to win your way in in the first round. I’d just hate to travel all that way and spend that kind of money to not have competitive matches on Day 1.

Maybe the best solution is to reduce the number of power pool teams. Most can probably agree on the top 16 to 20 teams in these age brackets. Going beyond that seems to be where the arguments begin with some of these teams.

Going beyond that seems to be where the arguments begin with some of these teams. Is anyone important unhappy and starting arguments? Right now there is some debate over 30-34? If you cut it at 16, then you'll have debates over 14-18. No need to try to fix what's not broken.

Agree completely. I could poke holes in teams selected for Power Pool B so there will always be debate. It is a great event and incredible effort to bring together the best of the best.
