Is it common practice to have an MRI done after an ankle sprain?

Why wouldn't it be? It just gives the doctor more information as to the damage inflicted. It's non invasive. The chief reason not to do one is cost and availability. I'm assuming those two weren't factors in whatever case you're aware of, so it was done.

Is it common practice to have an MRI done after an ankle sprain? If the sprain is bad enough. Otherwise it’s a money maker for the doctor. But if insurance is covering they must must agree. If it’s part of your $4000 deductible I would not jump into it. Most ankle sprains I have seen are back to normal in a couple of weeks.

Is it common practice to have an MRI done after an ankle sprain? I have seen this when the trainers have questions about a torn ligament or ligaments in the foot/ankle.
