I keep seeing Twitter and Instagram posts flooding my social media regarding hundreds of athletes being invited to the NTDP. Do these families realize these are just camps designed to fund the USA Team?

Deep down, they do know. But the lure of getting to post on social media, that DD went to this and that is just too much for them to resist.

Remember when we went to the NTDP model so we weren't hosting these camps and to try to focus on identifying top talent? Then USAV realized what that loss in income meant. So, here we are again at the cattle-call "NTDP" camp format.
Good times.

You know, I can't exactly be upset with USAV for doing this; just like I can't be upset with people who sell kale. I mean, I know it's ridiculous...everyone knows it's ridiculous. But if people keep giving you money, why on earth would you stop doing it? Just like everything else in life, I blame the parents!

Yep the parents cannot help themselves but to brag on this. The actual USAV teams have little to do with the NTDP but the parents like to think there’s a chance anyway. Such a colossal waste of time and money but they’re all lined up to go.

We got an email a month or so ago saying " please make sure your child has an active passport .. just in case" from the NTDP program and I thought oh lawd these parents are about to tell everyone their kid is heading to the Olympics.

Former High performancer (A2-Continental-Holiday Camp), yes 100% a money grab and the athletes love posting that USAV cred etc forsure (i was also quite guilty😭). I think it’s a great experience and the biggest plus side to it is that it allows people from everywhere to get a chance to play at a high level camp since you have to tryout for it. That applies more the the men’s side obviously bc men’s volleyball didn’t exist until like the last 2 years in my state along with many others. They teach the USA system which is great to learn but overall there’s definitely pros/cons. I would say if it doesn’t coincide with a college camp that you are interested in then go for it but also research as much as you can

Aren’t college camps the same thing? Kids go because they think they are going to get instruction from the college coach and possible get recruited. But then they wind up with a player or a local club coach and they see the College coach walk by their court a few times.
The money is out there. Parents are going to spend it. Why shouldn’t the USAV get their piece of the pie.

Without exposure comes absence. I know that Emerson Sellman and Macaria Spears from this area got invites. Don't know if they actually went but both made the National team, Sellman as an alternate.
I'm sure USAV is being selective with you they train. I know only the best from this area get invites to NTPD.

DD went for many years, since 6th grade. Many of the athletes she played with (and currently plays in club/HS) are often competing for the U19, U21 etc., and end up on the development teams and the travel teams. So based on my anecdotal experience, it does identify talent and continues accessing that talent; at least in the last decade of my experience.

The money is out there, I don't see why USAV shouldn't get their piece of the pie. And lets not pretend that the USAV is the only ones blowing smoke up these players and their families. I've heard stories of what some colleges will say to recruits to get them to sign, only for that player to never see the court.

I do think that the difference between top 1-15 recruits and 15-30 is quite big but the gap between the 15-30 is pretty small and subjective so the need to see them together at NTDP makes sense. I said this before that I saw Mimi Colyer play at one of these NTDP and was next level impressed but never saw her get any National team attention in hs which was a shame cause she is and was very good. It is always interesting to see how these "picks" and camp offers translate to college and beyond. Time always tells
