Clemson played their final exhibition match today at the University of Georgia. They exchanged the first four sets but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs in five. They open their season on Friday at home when they take on Middle Tennessee. I'm excited to follow the Tigers this season and encouraged by what Coach Kirr and company are building at Clemson. I'm thinking they might just surprise some people this season! Go Tigers!

The Clemson Invitational started yesterday when the team played Western Carolina and won in three. Play continues this evening when Clemson takes on South Alabama (6:00 PM) and then concludes tomorrow afternoon (2:00) against Green Bay.
Clemson is 3-1 on the season after one week of pre-season play. Pretty good start for a team with 11 new players on the roster, 7 which are freshman. Excited to continue watching this team learn and grow this season. Go Tigers!

kinda strange they’re not playing at home during homecoming weekend… It feels like they are 11 new players every year for Clemson. Maybe the new coach can establish some stability.

Just realized I never updated after the final match last weekend. The Tigers went 2-1 sweeping Winthrop and Green Bay but fell to South Alabama in 3 in the Tiger Invitational at home. The Tigers played in the Gator Invitational over the past 3 days. They went 2-1 beating Wintrop in 4 and Sacramento State in 5 sets. The Tigers fell to Florida in 3. So far, the Tigers are 6-3 in non-conference play. Next match is Thursday against Houston Christian. Go Tigers!

Carolina's setter goes out in the 1st set, but they still get the sweep.

Haven't watched all of Clemson's games but I've watched a couple in conference play and I'm quite surprised they are 0-12. Here are some thoughts:
Blocking is an issue. They really miss Adria Powell here because it doesn't feel like Hansen nor Young's block is consistent and it feels like their opponents are just hitting through the seams, tooling them etc.
The offense has really struggled at times. Aźyah Dailey has been the main offensive option for Clemson in conference and had a great 30K performance vs Georgia Tech but there isn't any other consistent options offensively. Mia was the leader in kills going into conference play but she hasn't been terminal. I think she only has 73K, hitting ~0.06 compared to 119K for Dailey. Joki has 59K, Young has 56K, Hansen has 46K.
Devan Taylor has been doing all she can. The floor defense for Clemson hasn't been the biggest issue imo. Even the passing looks okay(ish). I like what I've seen from Addi Rains and Claire Luoma. With Devan graduating, I think Clemson will be in good hands with whoever wins the libero jersey.
I can't figure out the setter situation. Kitty is better than Aubrey but idk if either are the answer.
In the off-season, I think Clemson needs to hit the portal, definitely for a middle and a pin. Maybe a setter as well. They do have 19 players on the roster going into next season, so gonna be interesting.
