maybe. I think Poland overperformed and Turkey did not. I think Bosio deserves a shoutout. She had the same hitting stats as Stysiak bosio has done really well, and yeah i agree Poland has really overperformed. Korneluk was insane and really fun to watch. Korneluk gonna have 20 pts in the finals with 11 of them being blocks saying it now!!!

Which player do you all think was the biggest surprise of VNL? For me it was Nova Marring from the Netherlands. I had absolutely no idea who she was and I was so impressed by her every time she stepped on the court. Schwerin got an absolute steal with her.
I'll give an honorable mention to Orthmann. Obviously I already knew who she was so she wasn't a "surprise" to me, but she has been a completely different player this VNL imo and surprised me with how much more consistent she was.

Its kinda wild that Canada was just a couple of tie breaks away from being top 8 at both this VNL and last year's WCH I can't forget about the Poland game in last year's WCH. The Korean referee did Canada so bad, they were about to beat them in their home.

From no one to surprise: Marring, Maiara, Wang Yuanyuan (she wasnt really a no one, but you get it), Asjia From Flop to not Flop: Orthmann, Kastner, Nika, Brie King, Rozanski, China's passing, Nwakalor

Nova Marring is going to be a star. She’s feisty and fearless and plays much “bigger” than she is. Excited to watch her career develop for sure.

So. Lots to say. This was probably be my last post for a while though. Need some time from real life stuff going on and this certainly didn’t help as I had already purchased tickets and was so beyond excited to see maja and Boskovic live. I’ll likely never get to see maja play life now and I’m really disappointed but I’ll go over my thoughts even though most ppl here don’t care much haha.
OHs this was honestly a very disappointing group overall. It seemed like on any given day only one of Lazovic, Buša, Lozo, or Uzelac could string together a good game. I’m not even going to mention Milenkovic because for some reason she couldn’t pass to save her life this VNL so if she’s gonna be like this she’s useless. Busa and Lozo were very very disappointing. Extremely inconsistent. Bianka especially after having such a wonderful NT season and after a great first match vs the usa looked to be a very good option for us. That would end up being like her only good match… Lozo is so tragic in reception and defense and her offense is good but she randomly becomes too error prone. Uzelac was the revelation I thought she’d be but she got managed so poorly by Gio. Never letting her start even though she’d inevitably come off the bench to try and save the day. She cooled off in the finals week because her and maja have 0 connection at all and that was unfortunate. Though it must be said she’s a super talent and she’ll be a force to be reckon with to compliment Bošković in the future. Lazovic showed some flashes of being able to put together beautiful all around games but she’ll never be full time starter material.
MBs. Aleksic was also a disappointment. Her blocking was much worse than last year (except when she roofed Vargas like 3 times in a row which was cute lmao.) she also got shafted a bit week one having to play as a slider. Her and Drca didn’t have a good slide connection and it limited her ability to score because she’s a great scorer in front. Popovic might be the worst blocker of all time and I think this is one of the most costly reasons for some of our losses. She’s literally horrible at blocking. Her and maja have the most insane connection thoigh and Mina might be able to win a bounce contest if there was such thing. But when Mina played with Drca she was just a liability everywhere. Stevanovic was amazing in week 2 and to start week 3 but had maybe the worst match of her career vs DR and that was extremely costly too. I’m not worried about her though. It is a CRIME that Osmajic and Kurtagic didn’t receive like any playing time. They are both amazing talents and should have been tried at least vs Croatia or Brought in vs like Canada.
Opp Bjelica drop in form was the biggest factor in us underperforming. She was worse than useless and made the lives of our outsides so much harder the first two weeks. Boskovic was phenomenal and maybe had the best match of her career va Germany with 39 points hitting 600 (that’s seriously so insane) I was also massively impressed with her defense which has always been good but she was picking up everything this week. Not much else to say. She deserved better. But also we don’t need to run the offense like it’s 2021 anymore… we don’t have to play bosko ball THAT hard and yet we did anyway.
Setter. Maja was AMAZING vs China. Literally so !!!!###$$$!!!ing good. Then…… she forgot how to do literally anything besides feed Boskovic and force the middles. It was extremely unfortunate to watch her go from the china performance to the DR performance. Were at 11-6 Serbia in the FIRST SET. Boskovic had SEVEN points. That is so stupid. There is legit No reason to feed Tijana THAT hard at the start of a match just to wear her out later and let DR try and make adjustments. Maja should not be the starter but is the best back up option in the world because her style would be so hard for blockers to adapt to mid match in a sub appearance. Drca was fine. There’s absolutely no way to fairly evaluate her because playing with no opposite or real slide threat in week one makes her job ridiculously hard and easy to read so I’m not putting much stock into it. She looked good week 3 when she came in with Boskovic so I’m not worried. She should start.
Libero Pusics level also dropped but she’s still a good libero and is good for at least one jaw dropping clutch dig at the end of each set and mostly steady reception. Jegdic was good in week 2 but was bad in week 3 when she got chances. Not much to say. 2 decent options here and I don’t think they were that big of a problem for us mostly.
Coaching I’m gonna try and not be too negative. I need to give him more time to learn the girls and implement the system he wants and he barely had time for that. Though I must say it is INEXCUSABLE that the world championship starting line up never played together week 3 fully. Like why on earth did that never happen when things weren’t working…. That’s just common sense. His choice to start maja in the 5th against DR lost us the match. She was awful and Drca and Boskovic were connected beautifully in the fourth. It’s also so stupid how he wouldn’t start Uzelac in week 1 or 2 lol or let Osmajic of Kurtagic play… idk I’m gonna let him figure out his system and judge him later in the year.
Overall Yes Serbia was way worse than expected and they deserve some criticism but some of y’all have gone way over the top with the “Serbia is a fraud or a flop blah blah” especially regarding the Bulgaria match. Do you have any idea how little the girls cared about that match ? It was their third match day in a row after they lost and realized they couldn’t make finals and that winning Bulgaria match meant literally nothing. When they did take it seriously in set 5 they won 15-4…. That match result literally means nothing lol. Serbia will be back. They have a lot to work on but I mean they have been like the pillar of consistency the past decade medaling at every single major target event since 2015. Winning TWO world championships and European championships and securing 2 Olympic medals. They have achieved more in that 8 years than a lot of national teams have ever done and they still have the best player in the world. It would be incredibly naive to write them off completely as a medal contender in Paris lol.
Anyway that’s a lot. I’m obviously disappointed but missing out on VNL playoffs isn’t the end of the world. I’ll see you guys in a while. Thx for reading if you got this far

She deserved so much more playing time. I honestly don't know what the thinking was there by Gio. She's gonna be so good.

There is for sure a beef between the fans, but between the players before this game?! If there was, which I doubt it, only from the turkish side. It doesn't make sense for the brazilian players to have any rivalry against the turks. There are 2 ways a rivalry is stablished: 1- Due to past incidents (there was none before this last game). 2- After a series of decisive or historic matches, commonly games with championships on the line (Turkey never made it to those types of games). It's like saying that Liverpool players have a beef against Luton Town players because the fans banter each other on twitter. Luton? Maybe you could say that if Kazakhstan started beef with Brasil. Now see this is lowkey part of the reason for the rivalry. Turkey has been a top 5-7 team for awhile, where Brasil has been number 2. So more like say, Tottenham or Newcastle or even Everton (who is a recognised “rival” of Liverpool). P.s, one of the spark points of this beef was Thaisa saying Zehra Güneş was not a good player and that her beauty is exaggerated, during a tournament where Zehra had almost twice the blocks of any other player and Thaisa has clearly had some rough plastic surgery. when did thaisa say that omg
