Canadas summer is over if they lose to Bulgaria. Maybe then the right people will have to take responsibility for this mess. it's a shame because Sammelvuo is a really great coach. But there's so little to work with, which I don't get. Doesn't Canada have some pretty competitive university programs?? I agree. He is a great coach, no question. Canada has a very good university system, particularly in the west which is one of the issues. The east and the old guard at the top essentially refuse to acknowledge it. The previous coach, Ben Josephson, came from the west and the winningest program in recent history. He quite obviously tried to move the program forward with a youth movement and was fired for it. He made a bunch of mistakes but last I checked mistakes are a part of learning. And its not like this years team looks any better than last years team.

I honestly can't understand it.

I honestly can't understand it. They definitely look worse which makes the firing all the more brutal. So short sighted. They have another young setter on their VNL long list who hasnt even been invited to training this summer.

Which team do you think has the best two opposites right now or in this VNL? I would give it to France with Patry and Boyer. I feel like France can start either one of them and they won’t skip a beat.

It's a great question though because, for most teams, the drop off from the starting OPP to the back-up is BIG. I like Nishida/Miyaura though I'd have to see them against a really good blocking team. I want to say Argentina as well but Lima can be so hot and cold.

I kept remembering how effective he was in the Tokyo Olympic. Not a flashy player but quietly effective. I would put Nishida/Miyaura up there too.

I don't know what happened to him. He's fallen off, at least in Italy. Maybe the old him will show up this summer for the NT.

I think the the big drop off from the starting OPP to the back-up is what makes it so hard to grade them.
