probably one of the most exciting highlight replays i’ve seen from this team….this team has been so solid against adversity.
Micah looks smoother than ever, and i hope she keeps building on this heading into Paris!

I've always been on the Carlini/Hancock setter pair train.

Maybe the statistics are waay off, but your perception doesn't match the statistics and that was exactly my point. Washington had a few more blocks, but she had fewer positive touches. Seems a wash based on the statistics with regard to block. Washington can be spastic, but her best was much better than Rettke's best. Washington therefore had a bigger impact on the match. I would direct you to US down 18-20 in the 3rd set, when Dana blocked Stysiak back-back to bring them even (and sending Maggie to the bench to sort out her life)…. And 14-14 in the 5th where Dana perfectly timed her attack on an over-pass to bring on match point & trigger Lavarini. (That ball was fully1/2 over the net if you stop the replay at the point of attack. You can propagandize on your agenda all you want, but even KRob singled out the consistency of block touches from the middle as the key to the game in her post match interview.

USA having 29 positive block touches vs 15 for Poland is wild. Hancock had 8 by herself... I wonder what they (both USA and Poland) hit in transition.. jwvolley is that a VM stat?

I know Hancock has her detractors on this board, but you gotta give her credit in that she's playing very well this tournament in (I think?) her first summer with the full reigns to the offense. I can see why KK likes her - sure the setting isn't always pretty nor perfect, but I think she's shown some tremendous poise and leadership in the tougher matches (Serbia, Turkey, Brazil, Poland), and that's translated over to some of the newer US players like Lanier, Skinner, and O'Neal playing well. The setting race for Paris is going to be very exciting! The US is very lucky to have three quality setters (when healthy) in their program.

No anti Micha agenda except I want to see JT hitting, the middle being run, and a back row attack now and then. She has proven in the VNL these things are not for her.

Yes, she's head and shoulders above our other setters available now. However, doesn't mean those things can't happen.

She needs to work out the JT stuff and I would also like to see her set more backrow. It worked great for her this tournament when we saw Lanier, Skinner, Drews all scoring well on it. As for the middle offense, I think that's a non-Hancock specific complaint with our NT unfortunately.

USA is in a great place. Having a healthy Lauren will be helpful to the team. Hope she is ready and able to go soon.

Dana's great at blocking when she doesn't have to move. That's the beauty of being 6' 8". She did block Styssiak twice in a row, on sets that were obviously going to her and didn't require Rettke to close the block. Same goes for the over-pass--Rettke didn't have to move or close a block on that one either. As far as Kelsey's comment, if you're 6' 8" and getting mostly block touches, it just re-enforces that you're late to closing the block. As far as my "agenda", I'm not crazy about either middle. I also don't think there's any way O'Neal is ahead of either of these two at this point in time.

It wasn’t Micha’s fault that JT struggled in the first, JT just doesn’t always show up and I think we’ve seen that with every setter she’s had. It’s nice to have a backup like Drews who’s more steady but the Olympics/the Serie A final this year indicate that JT does show up when it matters.
Y’all’s obsession with running the middle is because your favorite players are middles. The Texas and Wisconsin fans on here are exhausting. It really doesn’t matter who our middles are, we have a bunch of elite middles and won an Olympic gold with our best middle on the bench.
