The NE Volleyball Day Celebration was INCREDIBLE! Lots of questions how everything would work. Obviously, the weather had to cooperate and it did. Everything under NE's control appeared to be put together and executed to perfection. A true WORLD CLASS celebration of volleyball in NE and Women's Sports!
Great Job NE! Great Job All the staff that helped design, build and execute this World Class Production! Incredible Event!

Now that this event was so successful, let's reflect on how lucky we are that we were actually able to pull it off.
First and foremost, the weather. We've just come off a crazy hot spell with temps in excess of 100 degrees. Another one is coming starting this weekend.
It's typically VERY humid this time of year. Luckily that prior hot spell seems to have sucked a lot of the moisture out of the crops, so it wasn't as bad.
The wind was at the threshold of ruining play on the court. It was a bit gusty, and it certainly affected play, but it could have been much worse.
The Canadian wildfire smoke was a factor (see the haze in the pics a couple posts above this) but it was tolerable.
Then consider this was a mid-week match. People have school and jobs, but we all made the effort to show up. Some came from hundreds of miles to attend.
When they announced this six months ago people were excited, but the logistical challenge was pretty steep. I gave it 50/50 odds of happening based on weather alone.
All things considered, this could have been a better event. But only barely. It was definitely world-class.

the whole event was so magnificent that it's much easier than usual to ignore the detractors. should they have scheduled someone other than UNO? i contend that they shouldn't have... uno might be the only school that made sense. i agree. having kearney too exemplifies the university system supporting the match too. I wanted Creighton, but midway, i was thankful to know that it was between public universities. it would have been really cool to see an all-star state game of HS three set match. before the D2 schools! maybe they make this a quadrennial tradition so it's a recruiting tool for the universities involved? every recruit will get to play it at least once in their career? This match was about the event. The spectacle. The attendance record. It wasn't about that specific game. It was about the broader game that is women's (and girl's) volleyball. From a comedic perspective, it would have been hilarious if NEB had lost the game. But I don't think the school was going to schedule a competitive team for this event since that wasn't the point. For NEB it was an unforgettable spectacle and great for the sport we all love. For me, I watched the first set then flipped over to WISC v ARK which was also a great representation of the sport we love because of the play on the court. And the crowd of <90K were nonetheless loud and enthusiastic. I never flipped back to NEB because WISC v ARK was far more compelling. A great night all around for this great sport.

I really like the idea of repeating this party every four years ... make it part of the recruitment pitch. But I doubt that Cook will be the UNL coach four years from now, so that will be DBK's call to make.

Beginning another leg of about a 1000 mile round trip. Totally worth it. A+ experience start to finish.
P.S. NDOR westbound is not ready for football season. Yikes.

What am I missing here? Nebraska broke the women’s sporting event record What I mentioned was a men’s volleyball game in the 80s
