Good article from ESPN. A bit of a tough read for folks whose families have been touched by cancer. How Nebraska volleyball plans to pack Memorial StadiumFOR GENERATIONS, NEBRASKANS have boasted that on football Saturdays, Memorial Stadium becomes the third-largest city in the state. On Wednesday, the place will become volleyball city. More than 91,000 people are expected to fill the stadium to watch two matches, potentially setting a record for the most-attended women's sporting event in the world. The record, 91,648, was set in March 2022 at a UEFA Women's Champions League match in Barcelona. The event is so momentous that Nebraska's chancellor canceled school for the day and the board of regents gave the OK to sell beer. (Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at football games.) "I don't know how to properly define just how big this is," Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts said last week. "Unless [the football team is] undefeated when we play Michigan in Week 5, I don't know of anything that's going to be bigger." This was a fantastic read. |

Excited to be here, looking forward to the matches tomorrow! Is it more likely that football ties or that they fall short of women’s volleyball record in Memorial this season? Memorial Stadium's official capacity has been reduced in recent years. We'll never have a crowd the size of the 2014 Miami game again (91k in attendance). Football's capacity is something like 85,000 now. Not only are we selling seats for this event, but the students from UNL, UNO, UNK and Wayne State have Standing Room Only access on the field. There will also be a limited number of seats for friends & family, and for the press, on the playing platform. |

We’ve got you covered! adidas is partnering with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to celebrate this record-breaking moment with Rally at the Coliseum, the official Volleyball Day in Nebraska pep rally at the Nebraska Coliseum on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Nebraska volleyball team is scheduled to make an appearance at the Coliseum around 12:30 p.m. for 20-30 minutes. Fans can get geared up at the adidas fan station, cheer with the band and spirit team, and be the first to get the official Volleyball Day in Nebraska gear. 8/29 Volleyball Day in Nebraska Forecast from the National Weather Service4:00 p.m. 86° Wind SE 9 mph Humidity 43% 7:00 p.m. 83° Wind SE 10 mph Humidity 49% 10:00 p.m. 74° Wind SE 7 mph Humidity 68% Chance of precipitation 0% Sunset 8:02 PM Moonrise 8:16 Full With those projections, wind won’t be much of a factor in the match. You tend to see wind start to affect play in outdoor vb once you’re in 13+mph winds. High teens and low 20s is when some chaos can start to ensue. Would’ve been funny to watch, albeit unfortunate for the players / quality of play. Luckily for them, tomorrow is setting up to be a perfect night! |
