Right, liberos can't serve in PVF, just like international rules. Yes, she definitely outplayed Hentz today. I also feel like she's outplayed Kendall White in PVF, another libero who's been in the USA NT gym. I agree, I miss seeing her on the beach, and we may never find out what could have been with her and Klineman. But she really seems to be having fun on this indoor team, something we didn't see much from her on the beach the last couple of years. atp karch should look at her as an AP for Paris. she can replace almost any position. Hard to tell if she can compete internationally as a libero given the low level of play and avoidance of serving her, but she should get a look there. Certainly doesn't have the size to play front row though.

Thought she was really explosive as a defender. what about brooke and sponcil? blocking would suck but ball control would be off the charts. Plus they can both terminate. Might be a pairing where Sponcil would get served and show what she can do as the primary attacker.

“I quit beach volleyball” That’s a very different response than the one she gave in the article linked at the beginning of this thread. No mention of continuing to play beach after the PVF season. She also talked about how she learned of the PVF at the Atlanta AVP where some people from the Atlanta Vibe were promoting the new league. As it turned out, that was the last beach event she played.

Good point. Before she said she'd still play AVP depending upon how things develop, since the AVP was changing this year. TBH I missed in listening that she said she quit Beach. If she did, I must have assume that she was talking about the present, not necessarily the future, or permanently.

Yes, and maybe we shouldn’t take her words too literally, given that she was talking to an audience that probably isn’t familiar with her history or previous interview. Still, I thought it was an interesting choice of words. Also, I noticed that AVP Huntington Beach is the same weekend as the PVF semifinals and championship. There’s no guarantee that Grand Rapids will make it that far, but either way it seems unlikely that Sponcil will be ready to play beach by then. So for those of us hoping for her to play beach this year, she’ll need to find a partner to play MBO and Chicago, and hopefully do well enough to qualify for the League.

watched Grand Rapids for about the sixth time yesterday. Sponcil is doing great but the team is faltering, having started 3-1, but then 1-4 since. There is only so much influence a libero can have on outcomes. Liberos can't even serve in the PVF. Anyway, the point of this post is that if Grand Rapids isn't playing in the Semis or Championship, Sponcil will be that much closer to being able to also play Beach. Looks like regular season ends around May 12.
Somebody tell Alix to stay in shape. Alternatively, if Carly Skuh-joe-dit also isn't in the Semis either, she and Sponcil could play Beach together.

After today's blog post, and the announcement that player salaries will increase, I'm optimistic that she at least re-signs with the Rise for next season. Maybe she'll even move to the area? 🤞

All contracts for this year were just for this seasion. each team gets until june (or maybe july) to negotiate with their own team members. then they become free agents for anyone else to go after. The league just announced salary structures next year are changing for the star players/better performers. I don't know if they will still have "franchise players", or if the stipulations of being a franchise player will be the same. Grand Rapids will very likely be losing at least one of their franchise players, Emiliya Dimitrova, to retirement. If they try to sell Sponcil on taking that spot, and, if the stipulations are the same, then she'll make Michigan her primary residence and will be required to make promotional appearances for the team in the off-season. I don't know how many appearances. I don't know the time requirements of the avp season. So, in other words, I have no idea.

Sarah is actually balling out there at this point. I haven’t focused on her serve receive or second ball setting much lately, but she’s surely a top player in the league, if not the best, at digging hard driven swings.
Just concluded watching tonights match. Khat Bell could not find any kind of shot to hit the floor against Sarah. Textbook “ate her up” type situation. She just sat back and scooped up everything.
I’m happy for her, but all these plays just make me want to see her do it on the beach again.
