In some ways, I think the Jenny Finch thing in softball didn't work to the benefit of the sport, though it did make Jenny Finch a household name. Who's Jenny Finch? (Honestly...I've never heard of her.) maybe the second or third pitcher for USA softball, played for Arizona in the late 90s - early 2000s. she's really beautiful and a total barbie doll.

I'm not sure why chancelucky doesn't think Jenny Finch helped softball. Yeah, she is a babe* and all, but she is also very, very good. Not quite as good as Lisa Fernandez, but still very good.
So there is now a professional women's softball league (Finch plays for the Chicago team), and there wasn't one before. I don't know how its doing, but hey, there is one.
*Although as a friend of mine likes to say, Jenny Finch is SO 1999. We've moved on.

Contact the Puerto Rico folks. They sure know how to run a Pro League in a country that is not very wealthy. If they can do it why can't we??? That is the question. ESTRELLA

i for one would be against it - that would probably mean high school players opting to play volleyball in college and go pro - and if it folded within lets say in a 2 year span - those 18-20 y.o. players wont be able to go back to college and play for schools like nebraska or hawaii for instance So what? How would that be different from any other sport? there is a difference - professional indoor volleyball isnt as popular as the likes of basketball baseball tennis football and heck even golfing in the us even though you may think so for some odd reason - if it was - a professional indoor volleyball organization in the us would be on tv right now battling for air time with lets say world series of poker and a spelling bee contest -- how many matches did you see on tv when there was a professional indoor volleyball in the us?? better question - would you rather have had someone like willoughby or ogonna opted to play professional indoor volleyball in the us if it was starting up on a trial bases and not being able to see them only if you attended their matches and within 2 years span that professional indoor volleyball folded and never to see them play for who knows how long on tv if that??

that's a fair enough question. Yes, there's now a softball league, but the Olympics dropped the sport. I'd like to check back to see how the Professional Softball League does compared to the USPV. the tricky thing in women's sports always seems to be that they look for Jenny Finches (who as it happens is a very good player) to promote the sport instead of selling people on the action. I have noticed on my own site www.chancelucky.blogspot.com that I get more searches for Rachel Wacholder pictures than any other search topic. The funny thing is I've never had pictures of anything on my site. I'd only mentioned her a couple times in some of my volleyball stories. In any case, it leads me to suspect that she's developing a large following and if they want to Jenny Finch or Sharparova someone for Volleyball, she'd be the one.

So the 5-hour plane ride is worth it, huh? Same way I feel about the trip to San Francisco. I wouldn't take the plane just for the vb match. I check in on my house in Hawaii Kai about twice a year, for about 2 weeks each: in late August/early September, and January. i live in hahaione valley -- and speaking of hahaione - i love saying hahaione to people - they think i am stuttering -- but anyways - meet me at 7-11 and buy me a slurpee someday -- oh and speaking of 7-11 - i remember one night i went down to 7-11 to buy something to eat - the worker there was looking at me strange the whole time - that was rather rude i might add - i think next time i go to 7-11 - i am going to be wearing some clothes this time and see if i get a strange look from him again
