I will say that Evelyn Deiderich and Van Hook were blocked a lot. With Deiderich she is undersized, with Van Hook I think maybe too predictable with dumping. I think the Roos just game planned well? Freshman OH Laird seemed to score at will. Not much film on her yet, as this was the most she had played.

Can i trust Avery Van Hook and/or Harms this week. They weren’t great against Omaha fantasy wise. ... Van Hook's season averages vs Omaha match: stat | season | Omaha | kills | 0.85 | 1.25 | assists | 8.3 | 6.5 | aces | 0.26 | 0.00 | digs | 2.46 | 1.75 | blocks | 0.52 | 0.00 |
... Here's Harms: stat | season | Omaha | kills | 2.74 | 1.75 | blocks | 1.2 | 0.75 |
vs Kansas City: (per set stats) Harms == 3.5K, ==============1.00B Van Hook 0.0K, 9.25As, 0.25Ac, 2.00D, 0.25B So good kill numbers for Harms, good assist numbers for AVH, a little below average elswhere.

Yes, I am definitely okay with those lines. They could be better. I was a little surprised Van Hook couldn't score, I think they were prepared. I noticed most of her dump attempts were more like full on swings.
Harms started out on fire offensively but I thought UMKC did well defensively to get touches and digs on her, she definitely slowed down.
UMKC also had some nice covers, could have been more blocks for sure.

Correction: I earlier said KC out-blocked USD 12-9... it was 12-6. That might be the story of the match, really.

stat | KC All | KC Conf | KC vs USD | Opponent Kills | 12.24 #4 | 12.60 #4 | 11.75 | Opponent Assist | 11.53 #4 | 11.80 #4 | 11.25 | Opponent Aces | 1.4 #3 | 1.7 #5 | 2.0 | Opponent Digs | 16.84 #8 | 16.50 #7 | 16.75 | Opponent Blocks | 1.28 #1 | 1.40 #1 | 1.5 |
KC just seems to be a team that is good at getting around blocks. Often Blocks/Digs is an inverse relationship. I think most teams would rather get blocks than digs. Yotes served well, at least. stat | Den All | Den Conf | Den vs SDSU | Opponent Kills | 13.38 #7 | 12.00 #3 | 11.50 | Opponent Assist | 12.28 #7 | 11.00 #3 | 10.75 | Opponent Aces | 1.75 #7 | 1.83 #8 | 0.50 | Opponent Digs | 12.34 #1 | 9.67 #1 | 13.5 | Opponent Blocks | 2.66 #9 | 1.83 #5 | 2.75 |
Denver appears to be getting better with every match. The saving grace for the Yotes might be that they are a team that is not as good as the Roos at avoiding blocks. Denver is a really really good serve and serve/receive team, though. That's huge.

Game Recap Link: COYOTES HAND DENVER FIRST SUMMIT LOSS OF THE SEASON Game scores went 25-17, 25-14, 25-17. Who Stood Out The Coyotes dominated all the way around with a balanced attack against the Pioneers. Middle blocker Madison Harms tallied a match-high 10 kills on a .500 hitting clip and added four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Laird recorded a career-high eight kills on 14 attempts with just one error to hit .500 on the match. Middle blocker Brynn Paumen also added a season-high and match-high seven kills to compliment her eight kills and .636 hitting clip.
Denver (4-8, 3-1 Summit) picked up its first Summit loss of the season as it could not keep up with the Coyotes. Outside hitter Cassie Davis led the Pioneers with six kills and one block. Cadi Boyer, Molly Mirabelli, and Ava Reynolds each added five kills apiece for Denver. Turning Point
South Dakota came out swinging in set one, dominating at the net with a blistering .667 hitting clip as a squad. The Coyotes held down the net on defense as well, outblocking the Pioneers 4-0 in set one alone. The Yotes came out to an early lead, but Denver battled back to tie the game at 9-9. A kill from Laird spurred the Yotes to a 7-2 run to take a 16-11 lead and force a Denver timeout. Mackenzie Fidelak put down a kill for the Pioneers but three-straight kills from South Dakota set the tone once again and South Dakota took the first set. The energy the Coyotes came out with never left their side of the court and they continued to dominate through sets two and three. As a team, the Yotes recorded a season-high hitting percentage while tying their season-low for errors at the net. Notable Freshman setter Avery Van Hook had 30 assists, three kills, eight digs, and seven blocks for the Yotes.
As a squad, the Coyotes outblocked the Pioneers 11-6 on the match. South Dakota held the lead for the entirety of set two while holding Denver to a negative hitting clip. Quotable
"We have responded really well to obstacles, and we have responded really well to adversity," said head coach Leanne Williamson. "It's one of those things that we really pride ourselves on. We're not going to avoid adversity, we're going to talk about it, learn from it, and move on from it. I'm really proud of the team for learning through those moments of adversity."

Glad to see the the Yotes won, and surprised to see that it was so easy. Who could have imaagined that KC would be leading the conference after two weeks?...

Big match tonight for the Mavs. Has your setter situation improved? There might be some improvement if we measure in micrometers. I'd like to see the team move away from playing as fast as possible with this group of setters.
