Watched and kept phone at bay for once. Decided to observe, yell opinions of calls at the officials from time to time (nothing too condescending), but mostly observe and cheer for the Gators.
Something feels off. Could be recovering from Friday’s match, or could be the mid-season lull. We are now a a few weeks removed from THE injury, so hope is the team is rallying together; however, it just does not look like it during long stretches. Year after year this is the point of a season where the senior class either rallies the team to make a push or they begin to check out with their career rapidly coming to an end.
I am really hoping for the former because this team has proved they have grit.
As much as I would have loved to see a blowout (in favor of the Gators), I am happy for the win.

You truly believe each year the seniors possibly "check out" after pouring out their efforts, physically and mentally, for their entire careers. Mmmkay. Possibly one or two on the sidelines, but not the ones you see regularly on the court. Doesn't happen. SMH |

Probably should have clarified the checking out by seniors is not directed to the Gator team specificially. This is an observation of teams in general across all divisions and levels. Sometimes it is more evident than others. No ill will was to be cast upon the team nor was it intended to be taken as a directed attack on the Gator senior class(es). It was a comment regarding what I have witnessed over the course of time across the board with hope that it was not the case for UF.

Maybe theyre still mentally shaken after losing stucky?
I know it may sound silly, but losing your best player and leader, has to shake things up no matter what.
Like muff is not even playing that bad, so its not so much only the setting, but just mentally, they seem exhausted

Like muff is not even playing that bad, so its not so much only the setting, but just mentally, they seem exhausted For sure some wind was taken out of the sails, as they were really hitting their stride when she went down. It's been a case of the back row being a step or two off ever since, in part because they think they have to do more than their job. The service errors have been way too many and at really bad times and passing has been inconsistent. |
