It's more than halfway through season and we all have a good feel for who does an overall, consistently better job at running an offense, defending right back, and keeping the opposing defense on their toes. In your opinion, who is the best setter, or your favorite, this season thus far (ex: Kami Miner or Hannah Pukis) and who is the best setter, or your favorite, overall (ex: Micha Hancock or Lauren Carlini)? You can put down multiple options for both if you really can't decide.
Mine: Lauren Carlini (consistency)/Gabby Blossom (offense) & Averi Carlson (tehcnique)/Zayna Meyer (offensive choices/tricky sets)

i don't know how you define best, but Hancock's teams won, a lot, at different levels. in terms of the overall package (skills and leadership) she's the best.

I feel like impact of the setter is one of those positions where you actually have to WATCH, rather than just looking at statistics.
Based on my memory - which is about mid 2000's to the present, the three most impactful setters I've seen throughout their college careers are Carlini, Spicer, and Poulter.

It also largely depends on the team needs.
If you want to run a faster offense, maybe you lean Lloyd or Lilley. If you want height and a solid block, maybe you lean Poulter or Hilley. And if you want to set the middle? You don't lean Carlini.

A lot of people are saying Glass......meh. She really didn't even start becoming an elite setter until her junior year. Her location was awful her freshman year and serviceable her sophomore year (and most of the transition sets were HIGH balls to Hodge and Fawcett). She had a relatively ineffective serve her entire career and didn't read tips very well in zone 1. That's a lot of strikes against her in terms of HER impact, whereas players like Spicer were absolute ballers since day 1.

There were some setters who had amazingly soft hands, sets came out beautifully and accurate. But a setter can impact her team in so many more ways (blocking, defense, serving, leadership, other intangibles).
I have no problem with anyone saying Carlini was the best; perhaps she was. But for me, the two best all-around setters who were flat out winners, made those around them better, found ways to make their teams win, were Jenna Gray and Micha Hancock. And believe me, I was always routing against Hancock. But she was gritty, and refused to lose. Definitely admired her. And Jenna would have been a 4-time 1st team AA if Dunning would have installed her in the 5-1 from the beginning, rather than waiting half-way through the season. I feel Hambly dropped the ball a little in his first year on the farm in 2017; otherwise Jenna would have 4 NC's as well.
