I think this match was won in part last week when Beach receiving went south in that 1st set debacle, with Hawaii getting the 2nd seed following that 1st set epic comeback. That 1st set comeback has got Hawaii tee-ing off pretty much ever since. Hawaii played so well covering blocks early and some great libero digs. But when Chavira netted that serve at 24-24 1st set it seemed the match was over. whether no energy or being shot from the WEd/Thurs matches or whatever, the receiving was about as bad as it could be for Beach. Hawaii really handled Glenn's serve well and Beach could not get any traction from that. Hawaii should do well in the NCAAs, if they can keep receiving like they have the last few matches. Long Beach's receiving today has nothing to do with last week. Passing is about confidence, and Chacon completely lost hers, without a technical foundation to fall back on. Tyler's unwillingness to yank her was a really bad mistake on his part. Oh very true. I’m surprised he didn’t go with another liberó even if just one set.

according to this thread, the setter is bad, and the coach is crazy doesn't look to good to me Not sure what happened this team beat Texas right? And they beat Hawaii in 3 so coaching can’t be all bad…right? But I’m definitely not in the know. Would love to hear more though. one would have to read the thread to understand the thoroughly explained elaborate details about Beach coaching and setting that was provided by experts. Many experts on here also had correctly predicted Hawaii is so poorly coached and had no chance to get in the NCAAs. oh wait!!

I would've taken the chance, and just died by the decision, and subbed out Chacon in the third set at the libero position. Just put in a DS in the jersey at the start of the set. Like the DS couldn't have done worse than Chacon. I'm shocked Tyler didn't make the change, it was the one thing that was killing them all match. If I am hiding my libero in service receive, whats the point of even having a libero on the court, much less that libero in hiding. I don't think Long Beach has another DS to put in. Hoff comes in for Lesiak and Giambi comes in for Glenn. I don't think they have any other players who they can sub in for their middles to replace Chacon.

I think the point of hiding was basically pausing her to recoup for a few serves. Didn't help. Long Beach was #1 or #2 all year in the conference in fewest aces given up. That's not a stat typically an indication associated with overall poor libero play. just have to give Robyn and Hawaii credit. Hawaii siding out relentlessly put more pressure on Beach to do so and Chacon specifically by serving to her relentlessly. And Robyn did that strategy in both of the last tow matches to target Chacon and it did appear to pay off and get in her head in both matches. Not sure changing to Hoff or Giambi as the libero would have worked any better. Hawaii got thru that 1st set and then Beach just seemed gassed as well; Beach needed to win serve-receive and Hawaii dominated that tonight.

She was previously a starting setter, and can play some decent defense. Tatum Hoff was a serving sub and played through the back last year. She’s a well-trained player with an Olympian Dad. I think Tyler was counting on his team bouncing back from a string of points like they have, and it got away from him. But hiding Chacon should have been as good an indicator as there is that he should take a risk.

She's a great all-around volleyball player.

Chavira was a setter but hasn't passed for Long Beach. And Tatum Hoff played in one set last year. Either way, I do agree that Hilderbrand was waiting for his team to adjust. Even with poor passing, they only lost by 2 in set one and was down by 2 at 16-14 when Hawaii went on a 9-1 run.

I was at the match so I don’t know if this was mentioned, but Glenn was icing her left shoulder throughout the night. I guess that’s one good thing about sweeping through the semis instead of going five.

One player nobody really talks about, but who had an outstanding match also is Tayli Ikenaga. She was all over the back row, not to mention diving all over the floor. To me anyway, Tayli Ikenaga was the missing piece to the puzzle of this Wahine Team.
