That’s saying so much considering the likes of Molly McCage and Chiaka Ogbogu. Was Molly forced into starting the same way Chi was? Can’t remember i don't recall chi's situation as a freshman...with the history of mbu; rachael adams (olympian), lauren paolini, jenn doris, bri butler, molly mccage, chi ogbogu (olympian) & asjia o'neal & of course many others (also remember khat bell's days as a middle)...i really like our current middles (sounds like a law firm all business; ames, singletary & bunton)...but regarding blocks @ texas; mccage held the record, then chi broke the record & now asjia holds the current record...next year we have another stud @ mbu, taylor harvey The Erin Aldrich erasure: That's 125% of the next closest player, if the factbook doesn't lie.

Side out scoring until 2001. Different era. Still fair to bring her up, but it’s not an apples to apples comparison.

On a side note, I hate hate hate that for a block to have any statistical meaning in the box score it has to score a point.
It would be as if in basketball for a block to count possession would have to change.
On the other hand, in basketball nobody is purposefully bouncing it off the defender’s hands to reset the possession. That would be a neat trick, though.

To complete the thought...Gregory can be a very strong home court advantage. Its advantage is especially apparent during NCAA playoffs were it is one of the best environments in the country. During the past couple regular seasons this advantage has not been fully leveraged and difficult/ slow to initiate. In the '22 season it was glaring enough to warrant a comment from Elliott. It was the 2nd to last regular season match vs #15 Baylor on senior night with the Big12 title, national rankings and NCAA home court advantage at stake (regular season matches no bigger than this) Elliott had the following comments: The crowd? Gregory was packed to the gills as normal with 4,276 squeezed in, but it just wasn’t its usual raucous self for some reason, the Longhorn coach said. “I think the crowd was a little weird tonight. It wasn’t very loud but got loud at the end.” eu.statesman.com/story/sports/columns/2023/10/28/even-in-adversity-elliott-glad-to-see-texas-volleyball-team-tested/71357108007Despite the band, cheerleaders, Bevo, tshirts and pre match video clips this "weird" crowd showed up numerous times in '23 during the regular season. Many have noticed in multiple. matches and multiple times in a match, occasions an apparently exasperated/ frustrated Elliott having to become the 'head cheerleader' and stand up and use hand gestures to try to get crowd engagement. How to best engage the fan base... is it not knowing when to get loud and/ or getting fan focus etc? How best to create and leverage a more consistent, strong home court advantage, relieve Elliott from his 'head cheerleader' role and allow him to focus solely on the match play? Thoughts? To relieve Elliott of head cheerleader duties, it would be nice if our dance team that shows up in cheerleader uniforms to stand on each other's shoulders and dance at timeouts would instead CHEER LEAD for the specific sporting event they are attending. The cheerleaders need to have signs that are leading the crowd in Point Texas and Whose House (this is a cheer we've totally let die out). It would be extremely beneficial if they could understand momentum and when they need to help create it and when the team has it to get everyone loud & standing to retain it. I've always found it slightly bizarre that the band and hellraisers are doing more cheerleading than the actual cheerLEADERS. In lieu of being led to cheer, our crowd has got to recognize they are not there to spectate but to participate. Elliot has said repeatedly that on service runs they want the crowd standing up and cheering but everyone is content to stay seated and of the opinion that a player serving is like a golfer teeing off. It only takes a few people in every section to waterfall the standing. Also, the crowd needs to be standing and cheering out of every time out. I always reflect back on the Washington semi in 2021; down 2-0 and 15-10 in the 3rd after a Texas timeout the entire gym just rose to their feet out of the timeout. The comeback was on. That needs to be a standard thing we do. Big pet peeve of mine, when the crowd is getting raucous on a serving run all the opposing coach needs to do is a call a timeout. We're happy to sit down and stay seated. You can't let an opposing coach quiet 4000 people by simply calling a timeout. How many times is Coach waving the clipboard to get people back on their feet outta of the opposition's timeout? TOO MANY! Many may remember 8-10ish years ago one of the hellraisers group members did a great job of not only getting the students engaged but also getting the whole crowd engaged. He did this for 3-ish years. His understanding and situational awarness of the match and of when to get the engagement started was excellent (too early it dies out etc). That was around the time period that Elliot used to give post match interviews. A number of occasions he had mentioned the great crowd support. As many have mentioned here, when the crowd gets going it's a great environment. Had a personal conversation with a xfer portal parents where they unilaterally stated that one of the (lower on the list) reasons for the transfer to UT was the Gregory environment. Said it was the best playing environment their daughter had played in. The player was looking forward to being on the other side of energy....

Since someone brought up Erin Aldrich's name, it got me thinking about all the great middle blockers who have left their mark at Texas. Based on those players you've watched play, who would you rank best at hitting the quick, the slide, and as a pure blocker?
The Quick: Chiaka Ogbogu, Erin Alrich, Leticia Armstrong, Rachel Adams, Brionne Butler
The Slide: Asjia O'Neal, Molly McCage, Lauren Paolini, Sha'Dare McNeal
Pure Blocker: Chiaka Ogbogu, Asjia O'Neal, Khat Bell, Brionne Butler, Rachel Adams
I know Bethany Howden was an All-American in Coach Elliott's first few years at Texas, I just don't remember much about her game.

Saturday, June 15 seems to be all Longhorns volleyball airings on LHN. Minnesota (2012) and Penn State (2013) to be shown; hard to believe those matches were more than 10 seasons ago.
