watching the sec volleyball preview. it appears that every team is stacked and it's going to be a dogfight I was a bit confused about the preview show, probably because I've never seen one for the Big12 or one put together by LHN. I was thinking, "Uhhh, are they going to run out of time to talk about the other teams? Oh, they're just going to not even mention the second half of the conference. Okay. I see. I guess you can only manufacturer so much enthusiasm for Alabama volleyball."

I could see us running a 6-2 offense on Saturday mainly for the coaching staff to evaluate both setters and at least 2 opposite hitters per set. Can everyone play tmrw without impacting a redshirt possibility for the coming season? Thinking mainly about Whitney here. yes everyone will be available without affecting redshirts if healthy I disagree about the 6-2 being the main offense though (unless that’s what we’re going to run in season). you can’t really get a full grasp on a setter’s ability to run a 5-1 from a 6-2 considering they’re not ever at the net blocking or ever setting a slide (which im assuming we’ll run a decent bit this season with Ames). if they run a 6-2, Carlson would blow Swindle out of the water but that doesn’t take into account Swindle’s blocking, dumping, etc. not sure how many sets are being played but if I had to guess Carlson will start in 2 of them, Swindle in another, and then some sort of 6-2 or 5-2 in another one You could be right. I doubt Carlson will be the first setter on the court tmrw. Creates too many questions and early speculation, IMO

In any conference TV preview show in any sport, the top half of teams are going to get the majority of air time because those are the ones that most interest the majority of the conference. If you sucked and haven't done anything to realistically change that, you will be an afterthought.

Think about John Cook telling the media last August that NU’s setter competition was even, or something similar to that. Stating too early that the freshman setter had won the starting spot could have resulted in the upperclassman transferring out before the season started. Carlson isn’t going to transfer out if she isn’t named the starting setter, IMO. Hard to know how Swindle would handle such a decision.

I’m confused what difference it makes in the scrimmage who the first setter is compared the the opening game against Wisconsin. are you saying that you think Swindle might quit the team before the season starts if she’s not the first setter against UTSA? if that’s the case, she was going to quit after Wisconsin anyways

I’m talking specifically about tmrw. And, the transfer portal never closes. Deadlines are for immediate eligibility. Anyone who chooses to transfer prior to Fall classes will have to sit out the season.

Anyone who chooses to transfer prior to Fall classes will have to sit out the season. im not trying to twist your words genuinely, im trying to understand your logic behind having to start Swindle in an exhibition match. if Swindle is willing to quit the team right before the season starts because she isn’t the first setter on the court in an exhibition match after being in favor of bringing in Carlson to JE himself, then good riddance. that’s not the type of player we should want at Texas (but luckily for all of us I think it’s pretty apparent she’s not that type of person, at least not this season). if swindle’s plan is to quit if she doesn’t start, she can still quit after the season starts and save her year of eligibility. so it makes no difference. a girl at arizona did that a few years ago
