Based on lack of critism can we assume Skinner is still looking *sharp* after USANT stint? NPOY in the bag...?

Based on lack of critism can we assume Skinner is still looking *sharp* after USANT stint? NPOY in the bag...? If she's healthy, she's by far going to be the best player in college volleyball. The usual caveat is that Texas has to make the Final Four. This team looks fantastic on paper. But that Elite Eight opponent will be no joke. And last year the team faced match point elimination against Tennessee in the Sweet 16. It's not a given by any stretch of the imagination. I'd like to see the team come out a little stronger than last year. They looked like it was their first match they'd ever played together against Long Beach State. It felt like it took quite a while into the season before they remotely found their groove - even when they were winning - and didn't really hit their stride until the Stanford rematch in the Palo Alto. I'd like to see them win the SEC and earn a regional host spot. Those are more important to me right now than whether Skinner wins player of the year at the end of the season. But to get to that point we'll need Skinner playing at a very high level, so it all goes together. But I pretty much take Skinner for granted. Not just that she'll be a force to be reckoned with on the court. But that she'll have actually improved her game by some substantial amount from last season, and will continue to do so throughout the year. The best thing that national team experience helped give her (along with her close association with her Olympian sister) is how much higher the bar is at the next level. But watching her the last two years (and while she was at Kentucky) it's been remarkable to me to see her continual improvement. She was great when she arrived on campus. She's at next level stuff at this point. I'm curious to see how dominant she can be this year.

Ramirez was discussed several times in the UTSA scrimmage but no mention of her during the Orange/White. Did she play and if so what were the observations? Thanks

Ramirez also in sweat pants. Bit of a limp For those who asked about Ramirez. Seemed like an ankle she was favoring prior to the match.

My overall impressions of the scrimmage:
- glad the 2023 class is healthy; while I don't believe Byrd, Bunton, or Helmers will make sizeable contributions this season, they need to get their reps in practice and compete against our veteran starters if they have any hopes of being starters in 2025; Swindle being healthy allows her to play her game without limitations
- so glad we picked up the transfers we did; starters need to be pushed in order to improve and stay hungry; Rutherford (if healthy) is the likeliest transfer starter on Sunday and we need her offense as she'll be playing alongside 2 inexperienced middle blockers
- lot of players had some really good moments; I think consistency was lacking by so many players, but the lineup changes every set certainly had an impact on that
- our middle blockers were not as offensive-minded as during the Spring match against Texas State; will have to go back and re-watch that match, but I think I was more impressed by the offense as a whole that match than I was yesterday
- happy we have so many good to great serving options; the last 2 or 3 years our serving has just gotten tougher; glad our coaching staff has been placing an emphasis on that
- my biggest surprise was that Sydney Helmers seemed to show such good ball control skills in the back row; she just seemed so calm in the back row

Oklahoma lost to a DII team who lost in the first round of their tournament…I know it’s just an exhibition but yikes.

Also I’m really glad that we don’t have to use a male practice player in exhibitions, or other non team members. (Although it can be cool to see old players). It’s one of the perks of having a bigger roster in recent years, fans can see more of the actual team members on the court!
