i like watching the process...its about getting a little better & of course there is a lot to work on...but we don't need to peak until december...je is good @ getting the team to peak in december I'd love a repeat of last December. But, I don't know that we started to peak in last December as much as I'd say we just caught fire in regional final against Stanford and carried that momentum through the final four; we didn't play like that in earlier December tourney matches against A&M and Tennessee. i thought we played well against smu though -texas hit .446 for the match (& a lot of blocks) -madi 21 kills/.486 -wenaas 10 kills/.421 -o'neal 6 kills/.400

Did anyone post the passing numbers against Baylor somewhere? Wenaas: 2.43 (28 attempts) Halter: 2.06 (16) Skinner: 1.92 (12) Wenaas had been passing a 2.00 compared to Halter’s 2.34 coming into the match so it was beautiful to see Jenna step up while halter was off by her standards. I watched all of Jenna’s passes back and they definitely boosted a few of them but no matter on whatever coaches scale, she passed a great match. Baylor failed to serve Devin a single time. odd but, I’ll take it. we probably need to let Halter push Madi out more. handful of Skinner passes Halter could’ve gotten her platform on

I did not look at the box score for Baylor, if they used it then, so the 6-2 from Texas was a surprise for me tonight, but obviously there are reasons it makes sense, with neither setter taking control and a lot of hitter talent. I have been watching volleyball for a quarter century, and people may forget the 2002-03 USC juggernaut with a 6-2. It worked pretty well for Wisconsin the last 2 years, the problem not being the offense, it being the serve receive being broken by strong serving from Pitt in 2023 and Texas last year (how did the Nebraska 5-1 do versus that?).

Tonight, with our coaching staff playing her six rotations and Skinner only in the front row, it made me believe Jenna is just handling her back row responsibilities (including serving) better than Skinner at this time. Skinner was struggling with her serve at Baylor, so seeing Akana come in late in several sets to sub for her was the right coaching move.

Skinner was struggling with her serve at Baylor, so seeing Akana come in late in several sets to sub for her was the right coaching move. like I said, they definitely boosted a handful of her passes (to my eye). probably should’ve realistically been around or slightly above a 2.2? which is still really good for an outside. Madi’s serve has abandoned her. I’m torn because while I DO think having her play 3ro right now is the best thing for her and the team, I don’t think I’ll feel that way in December. I’ll be interested to see if we turn Akana into more of a situational sub (which, we would need to use more than we did vs Baylor) or if we eventually revert back to a 5-1. if Carlson could set the bic how Swindle does, I’d be team Carlson 5-1, but until she proves she can do that, you have to stick with the 6-2. no ifs, ands, or buts. until that happens, I think you work Madi back 6ro eventually and then use Akana based on how each outside is playing. if Jenna is having a match like she did tonight, use Akana for Madi liberally. if Jenna is having a match like she did against Stanford, use Akana for her liberally. if they’re both holding up, great! we can use her late in the set as a serve sub for Ames.

If we can get the BIC from the tourney last year back, that alone is worth Skinner in the back. If that happens, I’d love to see Skinner and Wenaas both go 6 and Akana come in to serve/play defense for Ames
