Also, when the review official tells the down judge the call, she then bends over and speaks into a long, thin mic. Is that to tell SEC headquarters? Or is that to tell her partner the up judge? Who is she talking to because we hear nothing. i believe it's for the benefit of the tv audience

The new (to us) review process where the down ref does not do the review. There's the tech guy and the review guy side-by-side. This one was memorable because Devin hit a ball crosscourt out. And then she didn't see the judges signal point for Georgia and then she got confused as to why we weren't getting the ball for another serve. Then she got.....not upset, but astounded that no one saw the obvious touch she got off the defender. She had to yell towards the bench and someone had to yell at Jerritt, who was looking at his tablet, who then jumped up and asked for a challenge. It must have been obvious because that was a very, very short review.

That touch call was pretty obvious on TV. Also, when the down ref speaks into the mic, the TV audience hears what they're saying.

So far this replay system appears to be a significant improvement. It seems to be significant quicker and perhaps more accurate (less what were you looking at decisions IMO). I suspect the mike is connected to the up ref and/or the scoring table. If there was a need to communicate to SEC HQ, I would think that would be the review ref or someone at the scoring table doing it so that there wouldn't be further delay in the match.

Y'all Devin is #3 in blocks in the SEC (conference only stats, #10 all games). She and Mari are an absolute wall out there. When you spend 2 years blocking against Logan Eggleston and Madi Skinner in practice, I guess you get pretty good.

Logan was the TV analyst and she was stating the call a couple of seconds before the down ref signaled it. I know I am extremely biased, but I thought Logan did a good job as the TV analyst. You could tell that she was trying her best not to sound biased and she avoided the "when I played here" or "she was my teammate" statements unless asked by the play to play guy.

Since Jerritt arrived at Texas, he has been infatuated with the "tall" setter. He signed 6'2 Jenny Andrew right away, but she was beaten out a year later by the 5'10 Michelle Moriarty who ended up being a 4-year starter at Texas. (NOTE: I didn't know Andrew was the Associate Head Coach at Houston). In 2008, we had 5'10 true freshman Michelle Kocher guide Texas to its first Final Four under Jerritt. I was really surprised Jerritt signed Chloe Collins based on her lack of height; I think the plan was for her to be part of a 6-2 offense with 6'2 Nicole Dalton, but injuries to Dalton prevented that other than one season (2014?). Jerritt has forever wanted to have 3 attackers in the front row all match. Hannah Allison was listed at 5'11 and she helped win the title in 2012. Surprisingly, Jerritt passe on 6'1 Stephanie Aiple from nearby Round Rock who came from a Longhorn family. I believe her relative posted on here that they were told by the staff that Texas was not planning to sign a setter that recruiting class; Aiple went to A&M where she was named SEC POY one season. That was one of our staff's bigger misses, IMO. We all know that 6'2 Ashley Shook didn't have success at Texas and was beaten out by the 5'8 Jhenna Gabriel. Saige was listed at 6'0 and probably one of the most physical setters we've had at Texas. And, last season the 6'3 freshman, Ella Swindle finally gave Elliott his first national title with a "tall" setter. All that history just to say I don't know how "tall" the setter has to be to win a national title; perhaps it's more about blocking technique and the 5'11 Averi Carlson isn't strong with that skill. Nebraska's Bergen Reilly is 6'1, but I'm not sure how good of a blocker she is; but, she's very good at everything else. Don't forget 6'3 Ashley Engle
From what I remember, Engle wanted to play setter. And, that might have been the plan after Moriarity finished the 2007 season. But, Engle was one of if not our best passers in 2008; so, that was deemed more important for the team's success. Engle did get to set most of 2009 while in the back row, and hit from the right pin while in the front row as Michelle Kocher set the other 3 rotations.

I mean, I think it would be hard for the SEC to not give the POY award to someone on the Texas team, especially if we finish the SEC season undefeated. Wednesday will be a tough match, but I'm confident they'll be able to win. We'll need to play smart against Tennessee and Auburn, but we should easily win every match remaining on the schedule. Not only should we but it's imperative due to the lack of RPI-worthy competition. I wouldn't be so confident. Like I said, a&m will win.

My wife offered our two spare tickets to anyone in her office. A woman, who has only been with the company a few months jumped on it. I was about to sell her the tickets when my wife told me she was an Aggie and this would be her first college volleyball game in person.
Nope. Pulled the offer when I found it she was an Aggie. My wife lied to her and told her they were already "taken".
[And yes, I did get my master's degree in College Station]

Have you not figured out this is a tongue-in-cheek prediction by swiss? swiss predicts that the opposing team is "definitely" going to win. And, they almost always lose with this "prediction". This is why it's become a meme:
