I never have the desire to see Emma in middle back again btw. if we want Emerick on the court, fine, but seriously put her in middle back and if she can’t play middle back, then she doesn’t deserve to be on the court. Jenna was doing just fine back there. I think a solution for Jenna front row would be more desirable than her back row (if we stay in the 5-1). I’d also love to know JE’s thought process on not starting Mari. could’ve been the reason we didn’t straight up sweep… To be honest, I think he started Nya because he thought OU would be an easy win and he was giving Nya playing experience.

The intense discussion my wife and I were having walking back to the parking lot from Gregory:
Her: I don't understand why he didn't put in Ella
Me: Because they switched back to a 5-1
Her: But he could have put her in
Me: He went back to the 5-1. Carlson is the setter! You can't have both!
Her: But later in the game [when she was being abused at the net] he could have put her in
Me: He wants a faster offense and he wants Rutherford at the right
Her: But he pulls her [Carlson] and puts in Devin!
Me: Yeah for the block when we're on offense
Her: And the why didn't he put in Ella?
[And the ironic thing is even after winning the NC, my wife was never sold on Ella]

With nothing to lose, let's see a 5-1 with Ella and Devin. At least one set. They need a spark. Last year they played for each other. This year, I'm not sure. They have everything and everyone they need to be contenders. Will keep watching and cheering and shaking my head. They looked crushed in the line for "Eyes of Texas". Go Horns 100%
But more than a set. Need to commit to a proven on court leader (Ella) who will bring the fire, and give it some time to restore the team chemistry.
The other problem the coaches need to solve is who to put forward as the next Carissa Barnes.

It seems like the coaching staff has seen enough from Swindle in 2024; they have pretty much tried everything all season not to bench her in favor of Carlson. Setting stats as of today: Swindle: 17 matches played; 59 sets played; 260 assists Carlson: 16 matches played; 62 sets played; 420 assists texaslonghorns.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2024Swindle and Kahahawai did not play well in recent losses to Texas A&M and Mizzou; that must have been the final straw which led to reverting back to the 5-1.

Not quite as troubled and the reason is Texas didn’t lose 3 in a row at home to A&M, Missouri and OU on a fluke. All 3 of those teams have better volleyball rosters than Texas. Texas was fortunate to get them to a 5th set. Only thing left is to hope they keep playing hard. No way you're being serious?

Rutherford had 3kps hitting .344. really can’t ask for much more than that. by far the best hitter on the court today Facts, her and Skinner are doing their part offensively. We need more production from everybody else. But for that to happen, the passing needs to be better, simple as that. We also need defense. The blockers are supposed to block and slow down the hits so Halter or DS aren't trying to handle a 30 - 50 mph hit. Deflecting with fingertips doesn't accomplish that. I hate saying it but we need blocking height (I am a shorter person).

Is it more that she is not getting enough touches or what is the issue with her block? Too slow to close? Ames, yes she has a lot of work to do with bps of.083.

Don't be disingenuous, you know I was writing about Reagan and Carlson even the male anouncer commented on the hits going right over their heads, and allowing for a steeper angle of hit.

But we got beat in the cross court more than anything else today. Carlson and Rutherford really have nothing to do with that.

The serve receive is the main issue. It doesn't matter who the setter is or anything else.
