1. My favorite libero did not have the best of nights
2. During the first set, I looked at the stat screen and had to squint my eyes to make sure I was reading it right. At one point it was 7 digs for Texas and 0 digs for Tennessee. I had to make sure it wasn't 7-6
3. When was the last time Texas played a team that ended up with ZERO blocks?
4. Their blockers were b.a.d.
5. And oh yeah, that's that pesky setter that liked to dump on us. Remember those shenanigans during the last meeting
6. After the second set, I saw some hitting numbers next to our players I'd never seen before
7. Tennessee had no defense
8. Midway through the second set, it seemed their coach gave up on the whole match
9. Ames was hot tonight
10. When in trouble, call the BIC!
11. What did Tennessee suiting up and playing both liberos really get them?

I do have Texas a spot ahead of Kentucky in the poll I do, and, in the teams no one wants in their regional, I do not think I am being a homer, it is Texas and Wisconsin, right?

One of the things I wonder about is when a team visits Gregory for the first time. I know I've recounted this before, but this is related to this thought. A friend/couple of mine who are really into volleyball (daughter played D3 volleyball) were once sitting with me at a game, using my spare tickets. She went to A&M and he went to Florida. They've watched the Longhorns on LHN before, but I don't think they'd ever been in person until I invited him. The husband was taking in Gregory and he looked up and said, "Wait. You've been to all these Final Fours?!" I'm like, "Yeah, duh"
If you're a Texas fan, then it's "duh". But if you're another fan base, you don't really make it a business of yours to track the success of another team that you might play once in a blue moon. As a Texas fan, do I know how many Final Fours that Tennessee has made? Or that Mizzou has made? Nah, I got other things to worry about.
So when a team that hasn't ever played on our court comes in and their fans are sitting behind me and to the left, I wonder, "Do they look at the conference championships and Final Four banners and go - OH CRAP!"
Or do they say, "This gym is kinda a dump!"
And then, while waiting for the game to start, I said, "With all those Final Fours, of course I can easily pick out the recent years where we won the championship: 2012, 2022 and 2023. But within this banner for Final Fours, how many of those are second place finishes. i.e. losses to Penn State, Stanford, Nebraska, Kentucky". I don't think our fan base or administration will be putting banners for all the second place finishes.
Found a quote:
"Second place is just the first place loser" Dale Earnhart
Anyone lurkers on this thread that are/were first time visitors to Gregory and looked up at the banners and thought, "Wow, I didn't realize they had this history?"

Texas loves to go in the tourney as the underdog. Other than last year, when has Texas gone into the tourney as an underdog and reached the Final Four? Maybe 2010.

Okay so I have never even posted on this site before, but since you asked... I went to the Greg for the first time this year while on a work trip in Austin for Texas vs. Arkansas. I was mostly concerned with trying to find a place to sit with a view that wasn't blocked. So to answer your question: "Wow this is a really small gym and I have the last spot in GA that doesn't have a blocked view so I guess no popcorn for me." It was my bad though because I showed up pretty close to game time. Game was awesome though, so didn't really matter. Really fun atmosphere.

AVCA works on inertia and brand-name recognition. Players who make 1st team tend to stay there. Brionne repeated as 1st team AA even though her senior-year stats were not good enough objectively.

I get that..and most sports awards tend to favor the brand and name rather then pure stats…however the semi finalists for NPOTY list i think gives a good indicator of who they see as first team AA
