My "seat selection" was today at 10:20am. I almost skipped it, but I had to log in to get the parking pass ($65). Here are what some of you will be seeing. They are: The overview of of seats in Gregory. Second picture is when you click on either side of the mid-court seat back seating areas, you see all red as reserved. Third picture is when you click at the reserved bench seats, also mid-court, that are basically nailed in plastic bench seats on concrete with no back, there is also no openings. Sorry, but that's the way it's always been and after winning a second NC, surprised? No.

This is some really great analysis, especially the part about Wenaas. I always appreciate how detailed your explanations are. I wonder sometimes about Swindle’s height in relation to Skinner and whether they would be a more successful combination simply because her height allows her to elevate the ball so much. Still, I’m such a fan of Carlson’s smoothness and her acumen as a “pure setter,” so to speak. I know this is such an unnecessarily black-and-white question, but if you personally had to pick a starting lineup right now, who would you go with? I would also go with Swindle. Carlson may be the better "pure setter", but the quality of pins Texas has helps to compensate for that differential between her and Swindle. Whereas Swindle is clearly a better blocker and offensive threat (.81 blks/set, .84 k/s) vs. Carlson (.3 blks/set, .27 k/s)

Swindle pros: Set texas to a national championship and an OVERALL dominating performance basically on one leg.

Swindle trivia: I know she’s one of 4 freshman setters to win a natty. I’d be interested in how many freshman have returned a team to the final four or national championship match. I feel like it’s pressure enough to be a freshman setter, but to come in and defend a final four appearance seems like some added grit to me

I don't have a personal preference as to who begins the season as our starting setter. Hopefully, both are healthy and competing on a level playing field. I'm glad Carlson arrived in January. I'm confident our coaching staff will make the correct decisions; the cream does have a way of rising to the top.
With our two 2023 starting middle blockers and opposite hitter having moved on, the only connection advantages Swindle has over Carlson are having set Skinner and Wenaas all of 2023; that could be huge. But, I don't know that her connection with Wenaas was as good as it needed to be. Swindle did get to form a connection with Singletary in practice all of 2023, but that doesn't apply to Ames and Rutherford who are also likely to be starters this season.
I do recall that Swindle started jump setting again this past Spring, but not a lot of elevation and jumping off one foot (against Texas State); did she do that the first part of the 2023 season? Carlson definitely jumps off both feet when she sets.
Not that you determine a starting setter based on their serving, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that Carlson was Top 5 in serving aces in the Big 12 last season. At a minimum, I hope she finds her way to the service line as needed.

Hey Texas, see you are having an exhibition match on Friday, September 20. What do you mean? It's pre-conference but it counts
