Yeah, it involved lining up for Point Texas club almost an hour in advance... I'm going to try to do it again on Weds. Luckily the game doesn't start until 8pm so I'll probably be able to get there in time. If I can get a spare I'll auction it off to whomever makes the biggest donation to Texas One fund. It's nice that they changed the metal and design, *especially* having the set scores on there. 11 pts lives forever!
I didn't go looking until you mentioned it. And to have the symbol of corn on the losing side......CHEF'S KISS.
love it, lmao

I was thinking of this team having two rookie MBs this year. In my mind we've always had the Jedi Master (in her last year) and her Padawan that would take the reins, become the Jedi Master and train their own Padawan.
So, I went back and looked at the stats in terms of MBs and number of sets the played that year. Molly Phillips was listed as MB even though she didn't fully play MB the whole year.
After the 2011 year, (rising junior) Madelyn Hutson saw that the (rising sophmore) Khat Bell was going to eclipse her the next year with #1 recruit Molly McCage coming in and she transferred out.
Chiaka redshirted for the 2106 season for academic reasons, not injury The Blue color means this player's last year of eligibility and underneath lists their MB2's in training.
Last year, there wasn't time to train a Padawan (for instance giving Singletary half of Bergmark's sets) and now we start with two young MBs.

Texas Volleyball IG page picture caught my eye- it was Swindle with Reagan- and looks like Mari and Madi playing together. Maybe they are practicing more with that line-up???

I mentioned the lightened bandwagon, so I thought I might ask on this thread:
"Texas VB longtime fans, when was the lowest feeling you had about Texas at the end of the season and when was the highest feeling you had about Texas at the end of the season and WHY? And please exclude the years where we just won a NC. I mean, duh that's too easy"
Now, this being VT I have to preface this with saying, "If you are the regular Texas troll (name has RED or GBR or Wahine or Cardinal in it - you are our regular thread troll), sure go ahead and put something sarcastic down. We'll just ignore it because we recognize you as our neighborhood troll"
My lowest: 2009. Losing 3-2 to Penn State in a reverse sweep and knowing that was the last year of Destinee Hooker.
My highest: 2010. Odd, I didn't realize it would be back-to-back until just now. You have to be a daily fan, and not just a t-shirt fan, to understand what a great job JE did getting this team to the Final Four. The team suffered from multiple injuries and held together by duct tape. There were a few games where 7-8 players were used in all the sets because we didn't have enough healthy players who could go in. When they lost in the FF to USC, it was nothing to be ashamed of.

2019 was probably the lowest for me. After that team took Stanford to 5 in pre-conference, I really thought they could beat them in the semis, but we never got that rematch. Also, all the trolls who say Texas chokes in the tournament (which is such an exaggerrated statement) were LOUD. The highest for me was probably 2016. That BYU Sweet 16 match was epic, and I don't think many people had Texas winning the semis against Nebraska, but it was a beatdown. And even when Texas didn't win the Championship, I was like "Ebony and Micaya are back, Chiaka returns, we've got a great freshman class coming in, we're going to be good." (I may have been too high on that 2017 team, but that's hindsight for you.) Interestingly enough, 2019 and 2016 are the two seasons I keep thinking about for this 2024 team. They have the potential I felt with that 2019 team, but I'm hoping they show the fight of that 2016 team.

Let's see:
2009 - Penn State, how did DH have one of the best performances in a finals ever and we lost. I'm confident that was a match we should've won 2011 - UCLA, this was a weird season overall as there wasn't a team that was fully dominate. Penn State had just completed their dynasty and was searching for the next iteration. The lane opened sooo wide for us to take it and we had that freak injury to Khat Bell at Kansas, which I believe was the difference this season. Had we beaten UCLA in the Regional Finals, I'm certain we would've won the national championship (in our own backyard, mind you) 2013 - Wisconsin, please don't ever bring up Demi Morales in front of me 2015 - Nebraska, playing a NC against Nebraska in Omaha, totally cool 2019 - Louisville, I mean, c'mon, can't lose at home like that

The setting battle was more of the same tonight IMO. Both connected well with the hitters tonight, with Ella providing a blocking advantage and Averi having a little better location and touch. The strengths and weaknesses of both have played out pretty much exactly like I thought they would early on. Still feeling blessed we get two high caliber setters! Did each setter play primary setter for the entire set (first 2 for Carlson; last 1 for Swindel) other than double sub? That makes more sense versus pulling a setter during a set (unless they're truly struggling); in the end, you have to win the set since your goal is to win the match. So, the coaches can't wait too long if poor setting could lead to losing the set. Looking at the stats through 3 matches; Carlson has 86 assists, while Swindle has 31 assists. Is there any question who our main setter is at this time? texaslonghorns.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2024Looking at the stats through 4 matches; Carlson has 129 assists, while Swindle has 35 assists.
