100% But more than a set. Need to commit to a proven on court leader (Ella) who will bring the fire, and give it some time to restore the team chemistry.
The other problem the coaches need to solve is who to put forward as the next Carissa Barnes.
It seems like the coaching staff has seen enough from Swindle in 2024; they have pretty much tried everything all season not to bench her in favor of Carlson. Setting stats as of today: Swindle: 17 matches played; 59 sets played; 260 assists Carlson: 16 matches played; 62 sets played; 420 assists texaslonghorns.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2024Swindle and Kahahawai did not play well in recent losses to Texas A&M and Mizzou; that must have been the final straw which led to reverting back to the 5-1. I take your point, but I guess I am saying a single stat like that doesn't tell the whole story. The team needs floor leadership. Also Ella is a better blocker and a bigger offensive threat. I think back to last years' championship run; Ella made all kinds of heads up plays and just helped find a way to win.

I'm pro Carlson, but my question is that why does Texas keep using as Ella as the "face" of Texas VB on social media. Imagine how she must feel, going to her dream school and having the best freshman season ever, to be on the bench and question if all of it is worth it. That must kill all of her confidence...reminds me of Ashley Shook and Jhenna Gabriel a little bit. Plus, Ella constantly posting her faith in everything, she must be going through it and my heart hurts a bit for her!
On another note....Akana knows how to play middle back defense...why can't Akana come in an serve for Jenna, instead of playing 2 rotations and subbing for the middles. Why can't Rella come in as a serving sub again. Ahh so many questions. Akana and Skinner don't deserve this senior year. I'm sure they can turn things around, it just doesn't look great as we speak.

I never have the desire to see Emma in middle back again btw. if we want Emerick on the court, fine, but seriously put her in middle back and if she can’t play middle back, then she doesn’t deserve to be on the court. Jenna was doing just fine back there. I think a solution for Jenna front row would be more desirable than her back row (if we stay in the 5-1). I’d also love to know JE’s thought process on not starting Mari. could’ve been the reason we didn’t straight up sweep… My thinking was he was switching between nya and ayden recently so maybe he wanted to see who would do better in the same game? or maybe a punishment for mari or to get nya in game reps?

either way i would appreciate it if she would stop hitting shots 3 feet out

Her hitting percentage would go up if Texas could consistently set her a ball higher than 6 inches off the net. It reminds me of the misconnection between Shook and Butler.

No, Devin didn't play bad against Mizzou; she just didn't play as well as Reagan did. Devin: Mizzou -- 10 kills and 1 error; hit .243; zero aces; 4 block assists; that translated to 12 points A&M -- 6 kills and 7 errors; hit -0.030; 3 aces; 6 service errors; 4 solo blocks; 3 block assists; that translated to 14.5 points Reagan: Mizzou -- 13 kills and 3 errors; hit .455; 0 zero aces; 3 service errors; 1 block assist; that translated to 13.5 points A&M -- 13 kills and 4 errors; hit .375; 2 solo blocks; 2 block assists; that translated to 16 points

This is the dichotomy of Averi Carlson’s play that I felt and expressed over her two seasons at Baylor. She’s a talented player, but has a very stark contrast of pros and cons.
Pros: - Great, pure setter (tempo, location, consistency, etc.) - Good on the move, setting with her platform - Service pressure - Backrow defense
Cons: - Blocking liability - Doesn’t provide much offense in the front row - Very quiet, won’t provide much leadership or a spark on the court
The problem with the cons is that they are things that are not really fixable. You can’t change her height and you can’t really change her natural demeanor as a person. She’s an amazing, fluid setter who can set up her hitters well, but there is a trade off in other facets of the game. She’s not one who will just take over a match by will.

The way I cope? I think of the players and coaches as friends and relatives and not employees (paid through donations and season tickets).
When my daughter played HS and club volleyball, there may have been a few points she gave the other team. Already in tears and hating herself, did it need to be said that I was disappointed she didn't live up to her hype and rankings the money sunk into club fees, travel costs, and equipment?
Would you type or say something in which next Thanksgiving your friend/relative member of Texas Volleyball would come up to you and say, "Now Uncle/Auntie [you] why did have to pile onto me for my bad game? I know I screwed up. That didn't help."
They're not our gladiators. They are our sporting enjoyment.

I will say as a fan the pressure is completely off for me. We just had back to back national championships; the NC match from last year is probably my favorite game ever
Obviously I wish our seniors had a better send-off than this, but all of them are leaving with at least one national championship. And a LOT of NIL money lol

Great classic setter and server. She also doesn't set away from the block. She once again was pushing players out of her way. I know she gets the second ball, but when it's right over Emma's head, let her have it. Trying to get out of her way leads to more chaos. Team chemistry is intangible but very important.
