Sophie Davis stans......... UNITE!
JMU stands no chance here if they can't get their setting stabilized (they run a 5-2, which is usually problematic in itself, or trying to solve another problem). Also, Sophie Davis makes some borderline contacts in the opinions of the R1. They made an early throw call against her in the Coastal Carolina match and I think that kind of got in her head. She's got some spice to her.

Thank you exit237a and houstonbear15 ! I know next to nothing about JMU so I am curious. I'm usually not much of a Baylor fan as even their Yossiana Pressley lead teams didn't intrigue me much. But there's something about the 2023 Bears that I love! A deep NCAA run would be great for the young Bears. Baylor in 3!

That was the best team of the Pressley era and Baylor history. Shelly Fanning, Kara McGhee, Marieke VDM, Gia Milana, Shanel Bramschreiber, Braya Hunt, Hannah Lockin*, Tara Wulf... You just had to be there. But glad to have you here now! This team is a fun one with all of the youth and fresh faces. If you love them now, just wait until 2024! *she deserved that 1st team All-American award and I will forever stand by that

Though Yossi really was that girl and Shelly Fanning was pound for pound one of the best middles of 2019. Her hands put setters to shame honey. Trust and believe I am waiting for 2024 to see what the Bears give! But until then, lets see what they do in the coming week(s).

Fanning always said she wanted to be a setter, but was never able to convince her coaches. Those jump back-sets were a thing of beauty. The crazy part is, her 2018 stats completely blow her 2019 stats away. 3,14 kills/set, .397, 1.16 blocks/set in 2018. 2.57 kills/set, .382, 0.94 blocks/set in 2019. And I remember she had shin injury AND a torn labrum in her shoulder that year and wasn't even practicing consistently throughout the season. Like she would wear a walking boot every day, take it off on gameday, and then still give teams the business. An icon!

Baylor is making their 12th NCAA tournament appearance. The Bears are 52-45 (.536) in sets played since their first appearance in 1999. They have advanced to the:
Final Four 1 time -- 2019 Sweet Sixteen 4 times -- 2009,2020-21,2021,2022.
James Madison is making their 6th NCAA tournament appearance. The Dukes are 2-15 (.118) in sets played since their first appearance in 1999. Their best finish was a 5-set first round loss in 2016.

This one is intriguing to me. While I picked Baylor for the win, theyâve played horribly at times this year. This could be one of those trap matches if they arenât careful.

This one is intriguing to me. While I picked Baylor for the win, theyâve played horribly at times this year. This could be one of those trap matches if they arenât careful. Iâve always seen that when things are good for Baylor, theyâre really good. But as soon as things go bad, itâs really really bad. I can truly only think of maybe 3 matches where they played horribly overall. Lots of up and downs throughout their other losses, with half of their conference losses being in 5-sets (the reverse sweep by Texas still haunts me). Serve receive has been the most consistent factor, even in the bad moments, so if they can get in a groove early there, it wonât have to be the Elise McGhee show.
