Thanks baytree for making the thread! For the opening match of the 2023 tourney, this should be a very competitive contest. The MAC champion is very capable of taking down a mid-tier P5 school (see Ball State over Michigan in 2021). Western Michigan is a good ball control team with an outstanding setter. Auburn will have the height and power advantage to counter. Go Broncos! |

I’ll be rooting for Western Michigan I won’t be fooled by Auburn again. Anyone a Bronco fan are they good what’s their story? WMU has been a solid program for some years now, they, Ball State and Bowling Green have been the top teams in the MAC, but WMU really separated themselves this year - Logan Case is a long time starting setter. They don't have much size though, which concerns me. Auburn has some size and I expect them to win the block game by a wide margin - but, I don't think that puts WMU in the 'no chance'. I think WMU is pretty efficient as a team as well. I haven't watched them too closely this year as in the past. I think Auburn pulls it out but gets a good test. |

They have an elite setter in MAC POY Logan Case who spreads the ball around and makes everyone around her better; Andelyn Simkins is a very good libero who keeps the ball off the floor. It's a veteran team that has been playing together for 4+ years, most of the starters are seniors/grads. They are on a 20 match win streak after rolling through the MAC. Their two losses are to Western Kentucky on the road and to Mississippi State in 5. They have wins over Wake Forest, Michigan, UNI. They haven't played any P5 competition since the non-con though and so this will be a challenge. |
