Hang on are we just gliding over Carter Booth's monster freshman season. I'm curious how Booth's offensive stats compares with Shaff versus Ashburn/Hammill at Wisco, anyone? Two completely different programs and coaching staff. 2022 Booth as a Gopher 2.02 K/S and 2023 Booth as a Badger 1.76 K/S Wisconsin heavily relies on the OH and RS positions especially with these three players...Franklin, Smrek, and Robinson. Who, by the way, are all back for the 2024 season. Booth was 4th on their roster in K/S last season, but I am expecting the other three to again be their top scorers barring any injury etc. Wisconsin has a lot more reliable/experienced power across their net than the Gophers for the 2024 season. So who knows what Booth's stats will be for the upcoming season. Yeah I mean that's great for Wisco but not really what I was getting at. Do you have an idea about hitting percentage as well? I'm sure most would expect an increase from fresh to soph season but are they comparable?

Okay well she did hit at a decently higher clip off of AshHam - .431 - than Mel - .360 - but still arguably very efficient in her freshman season when she was more of a primary attacker. I think that might be the highest season clip that Mel has set someone, and it was for a middle 😲

Somebody posted the Instagram link, but here's the actual link to the Kate Thibault spotlight: gophersports.com/news/2024/6/26/volleyball-gopher-spotlight-kate-thibaultIt's always good to have some players on the team whose lifelong dream it has been to be a Gopher. Their passion for the program can be contagious, and it's a reason to make sure there are always a few local girls on the roster.

I think that might be the highest season clip If you set someone one time the entire season, and they got a kill .... that's 1.000 ! What a clip!

She sounds like a very competitive and tough young lady. What stood out to me is that she will be more of a defensive libero/DS and she loves being put under pressure and can handle it well. She can be "relied on, especially in the biggest game". It must be so special for her to play her first match at the PAV and against her sister currently at Auburn.

I’m not sure what Shaffmaster did to you, but if you’re this upset about her setting, maybe you should bring your complaints to Hugh and Keegan. I’m sure they would love to hear your insight about their terrible decision making.

I just think touting a "stat" like kills per set (that being number of times the setter set you, not a match game), with zero other context included, is a little bit silly.
Even worse is the artificial stance that anything other than singing praises is equal to vile hatred and personal attacks. That's 6th grade logic. Reasonable, well-articulated critique, as I've given, is always welcome and valued.

Thank you for explaining what kills/set means. I had no idea. I can always appreciate giving some feedback, that’s what we are all here for. But the continued argument about Shaffmaster being the worst setter in history of this program is getting a bit old. As I said, if you’re that upset with the coaches decisions to play Shaffmaster (Hugh included), take it up with them. She has been a part of this program for 4 years and stayed loyal for her 5th. She has her moments, as ALL players do, but she is an asset to this team whether you want to believe that or not.

She isn't the worst setter in the history of the program, by any means. I've never said any such thing. I don't think any such thing. Just bizarre to -- I guess? -- lump all of your frustration and loathing for anyone who has questioned her in the past, onto me.
I have questioned her ability in one (out of many, many) aspect of her game. In that specific aspect, since SSS yes I do believe she has had the most challenge. There is nothing wrong with pointing this out.

Looks to me like both of you would rather talk about moving on than actually moving on.

I think Booths points per set and kills per set went down. 431 is fine but she scored less points which is what wins games.

Do I remember correctly that Shaff was first team all big 10 two years ago. Who votes for that? Do they know anything about volleyball?
